How do I make weapon slots filling up

Hi guys, imagine 10 weapon slots that are empty.
When I get a weapon it will be shown in the slots...how can I make sure that it fills up al slots from the left to the right, filling always the next empy one...

Array, 10 width.
as you pick up the weapon, push the weapon number (1 for gun, 2 for shotgun ect)

then its up to you how you want the hud to look. to shoot, just check if the array at x (the gun you are using) > 0

you could assign loads of variables to compare also.
