How to generate custom terrain or modify sprites

Get help using Construct 2

Post » Mon Apr 08, 2013 5:11 am

I've been a bit stumped with this problem. Construct 2 seems to function well with static sprites or a series of them for animations. This also means the the collision polygons are also static. In order to generate custom terrain I need to be able to change that. I could utilize the tile method to try and construct the terrain a chunk at a time but that seems a bit overkill for my needs. I'm trying to create a basic lander game and want to generate a custom terrain with landing sites and scores like this: http://my.ign.com/atari/lunar-lander   Does anyone know if there is a way to do this, or perhaps some plugin can help? Actually, I've been thinking that I'd have to write my own plugin, but I'd like to know if it is even possible with a plugin before I start going down that route. Anyone with prior experience with sprite modification via plugin or another method?

#iggyboo, could this be of any help?
http://www.scirra.com/forum/better-random-terrain-via-midpoint-displacement_topic46616.html
It is also a part of How do I FAQ.
Though the example has nothing common to vector graphics as the game at your link.

Now that looks interesting. I'll take a look. It could lead to a type of generated terrain.

Thanks!

Before you ask in this section , please try yourself ... or even check the How do I section ...

Please also take note that any 2d game iteration is possible in C2Whiteclaws2013-04-11 23:39:56

@Iggyboo
Sorry about Whiteclaws, he can be a total jackass! Please rest assured we are not all like that around here. There are only about one or two arrogant egotards around here that seem to get a twisted pleasure from pissing on noobs.
@Whiteclaws
Really? Necessary?
@Ashley
What do you think?

@Iggyboo
My canvas plugin can be used for dynamic images and per pixel collision detection. It's not as simple as it could be but here are all the examples I could find:
http://www.scirra.com/forum/how-do-i-simple-worms-game_topic47872_post300449.html#300449

Two of those have some kind of terrain generation if that helps.

@WhiteClaws
This guy kinda does have a point, however he didn't express it properly, but I'm sure he means well. As for custom terrain generators there's a couple of examples in the "How do I?" forum page, unclejunkie seems to already have shown you the link to one of them. Also I recommend not always resorting to a third party plugin as they are sometimes unacceptable in certain sites, such as the Scirra arcade

@Auntie Val , Stop always following me , god ... I go on the site everyday to find some issues to help people and each time ... and I always see those types of posts made by new guys ... Could we not prompt the user to the rules before he can even post here ? They do it on other forums ...

Seems like you only connect to try and drive me banned from the forums ...
Seriously , come on ...

I would like to say that this section is not for battling , therefore , that would be my last post here ...

Edit : Here , Cleaned up the post just for the sake of it Whiteclaws2013-04-11 23:40:38

@Aunti Val
Thanks for the defense. We gotta learn somewhere, right, and the best way is to ask questions.

@Whiteclaws
I appreciate wanting us "newbs" to RTFM but I missed that "How Do I" section somehow and now I know. Thanks Uncklejunkie! We gotta learn somewhere, right, and the best way is to ask questions.

@R0J0hound and @Retrodude
Thanks for helping to answer my question!Iggyboo2013-04-12 01:39:47

@ Whiteclaws,
Someone needs to apologize for your rudeness. I'm not following you around, as these threads are for everyone,but I really feel sorry for the people you take your rage out on. So yes, until you tone it down and grow up a bit. I'll be on your ass like white on rice! You ARE not a moderator of these forums!
