In game zoom in and out?

Discussion and feedback on Construct 2

Post » Fri Sep 05, 2014 12:34 pm

Hey guys,

I am about to start my next game and am doing a bit of R&D. I want to know if you can produce an in game zoom in and out effect?

i.e. Let's say I have a maze platform game. The normal view allows me to see the game as normal platform game, but by pressing a button or using a gesture I can zoom out to see the whole level/maze?

Thanks in advance,
Wyrm

Yes, it is pretty simple, actually. You can simply change the layout scale using the system object. You can also use a global variable to control it, just setting the scale to that when some button is pressed.

@TheWyrm and @CleitonEldron : the only thing to keep in mind is that you might get visual artifacts on neighbor sprites. There is now an option (I believe it's still rated "experimental") to fix the spacing of tilemap components at runtime. But with regular, hand placed sprites, you might get visuals seams in some places. I invite you to test it out before building up some gameplay based on that (it depends on the way you decide to make your art).

Good luck!

@Valerien That is right, I built most of my games on pixel art, so I only use multiples of two for zoom, for example, scales go from 1 to 2 to 4 to 8 and finally 16. Gradual zoom would be harder to do.
