Is HTML5 performance likely to get much better

Discussion and feedback on Construct 2

Is HTML5 performance likely to get much better on Desktops? Or is it just going to get marginally better overtime, with the main performance coming from new computer parts?

I'm sure it will gradually get better until it approaches native power.

The great HTML5 mobile gaming performance comparison.

The performances are already there, perhaps you should update your brwosers and graphic card drivers if you don't experiment optimal performances.

Anyway, yes, browsers constructors are pushing the enveloppe for their products to propose the best performances possible.
FF aims for its version 15 to be a major steppingstone in HTML5 gaming.
Let's hope they achieve it.Kyatric2012-06-02 05:07:10

Yeah I was only getting about 64 FPS on that test in FF, for something so simple like that I'm sure CC could get at least around 200 FPS+ (don't know if that test is capped at monitor refresh though). Which is why I'm hoping its going to keep getting significantly better.

How do you know that FF15 is going to be a big HTML5 gaming step?

Yes, performances are "limited"/"maximized" to around 60 fps in browsers.
Anyway, getting 200 fps or 60fps makes no difference.
Check this other blog article by Ashley explaining more on the subject and rendering/performances with games made in C2.

As for the information about FF15, I got it from Mozilla's dev in #games on irc.mozilla.org.
There are a lot of devs working/idling in there and they teased me about that version being really awesome for games. When I asked them about hicups and small "laginess" in FF, they told me this version is supposed to correct it.
FF 15 should be released around august/september if I'm not mistaken.
