Is this the right tool for me?

Discussion and feedback on Construct 2

Post » Mon May 21, 2012 4:50 pm

Hi,
I am trying to put together a very simple game. Very similar to 'Mr Potato Head' that everyone must have heard of?

Basically a canvas with items on that you can rearrange and output a png or jpg.

Am I barking up the wrong tree with construct? Does anyone else have any suggestions for better tools for this job?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

You mention Canvas which means you're talking about Construct 2. And although my opinion may be a little biased Construct 2 is certainly very capable of producing the game you describe (and a lot more!)

Keep in mind that Construct 2 cannot export an image! There may be a third party plugin for this, however... I don't know :P

Yeah if you find any web functionality that is missing, you can always write a plugin yourself. Construct 2 is very simple to extend. As far as image export goes, you are just taking the contents of the canvas and using the 'toDataURL' and putting that in an image tag, so it should be a breeze to implement. You could even export your game through Construct first, and then add the needed Javascript afterwards.Dalal2012-05-22 05:32:22

Before you implement a plugin for exporting to png from scratch have a look at the c2i plugin.. not fully functional and finished but still contains some hacks that can be useful.. when I've a little more time I'll tidy it up and make a working version.. or anyboidy else..
The toDataUrl function is unfortunately not so easy as it looks.. different renderers and missing support on android devices.. ;)Joe72012-05-22 10:50:01
