    Anyone fancy making a demo with mith me? - custom gfx topic first.

    We will talk about our demo game develpmnent over here. If you have any interesting ideas for the battle features, characters or story post them here.

    The team:

    alee - advanced programming

    SoldjahBoy - Gui ( will this gui include inv, stats, items, battle commands etc? )

    Aeal5566 - editor ( i dont know what the features of this editor are, but eventualy would you concider adding some new features?)

    ansmesnobody - battle mode demo ( i'll quote him: "I was thinking of making a battle mode demo for RPG's: If it comes out good, i'll pass it on to you,")

    linkman2004 - smaller things (mainly coding)

    QuaziGNRLnose - animation aspect of battles ( will this include fx animations? )

    shinkan - sound fx, 3d work (modeling, rigging, special effects, eventualy animations)

    megatronx - 2d and 3d graphics, music, sounds, story and game design.

    Rough version of the main plot:

    Group of magical beings from outher dimension is arriving to the planet Jaregody to worn people about upcoming destruction. But when they are realising they late, and that evil is already sendig its spawns, they are choosing few open harted people, and using them as their hosts, they are becoming one with them. Now, with magical abilities, a group of young heroes must quest to find and aweake anccient guardian of the planet - The Greate Protector. Only he can save it from approaching evil force known as The Dark Wonderer.

    Ideas for battle system:

    Visual: animated envirement elements like grass, clouds, trees etc.

    System: To not to complicate to much we can stick with something similar to FF from the 90's. plus we can add battle commands like special atacks or power attacks, enchanting weapon with magic power and combine attacks.

    Ideas for locations:

    Visual: animated envirement elements ^^, pre-drown backgrounds with tile interactive elements.

    For dungeons or duengon style locations we can use special tilesets.

    Ideas for gameplay:

    Less locations but more interesting content in them. More focus on weapon crafting than shoping them in town stores.

    Demo idea:

    In the first demo, lets aim for the engine and gfx presentation as a main priority. Story elements we will add later. I`ll do few maps, and prepare few characters and enemies.

    Character animation and movement on the map:

    I think we should go for 8 direction movement with high frame number per action.

    I just would like point out again that i know we are all busy with our other things, and i just whant you to know that we don't have to hastle with it. But at the same time, it would be nice to finish it within 2 months.

    Lets exchange our opinions and ideas.

    if thats all right with you, take what i wrote in the first post and combine it with games you have expirienced. if you played any of FF or any other J-rpg games before, u will now what to do ^^. You may concider discussing it with other programmers what you want to do. The rest is up to you. I don't want to be a dyctator, and tell everone how they should do it. I rather put fate in your creativity, and focus on the gfx and story side of the project.

  • I am, but I've been working on other things. I'll release the first .cap pretty soon, it's close to how I want it.

  • Looks good, although the story line seems a bit off for the standard rpg.

    Maybe its just me but I always enjoy the good guy vs. bad guy trying to take over the world.

    Any way I wouldn't mind contributing some, I do graphics, logos, textures, etc.

Altho will you be able to do textures in similar watercolour painting style as i'm? couse if you can you can do evirement pices, so i`ll later put them in to maps. if not maybe you would do menu, inventroy, battle commands menu designs, icons, basicly work on GUI wit SoldjahBoy.

  • Well I can replicate just about anything, but Im not much on brush work.

    I was thinking more along the lines of items, effects (magic, explosions), perhaps some of the gui.

    I can make trees, rocks, things of that nature, in the style, but I tend to crap out on whole scenes.

    So do what you can to best. I'll be happy with what you will do. If your going to make gui, dont forget to contact sodjahB.

  • Something to consider if you plan on using the bones system, are you going to us it for both the battle system, and regular movement?

    If so you should probably decide on the style of exploration, ie platform, pseudo isometric, etc.

    Especially since whoever is doing bones will need prerendered arms,legs, weapons, etc set to that style.

    ive got animations ready. thay just need to be converted in to pictures. I`m going to do typical top down angle view like in classic j-rpg. same as on the first picture in this topic.

    bone movement might be used for envirement objects and some monsters. the rest would be ready frames.
