lantern lighting

Get help using Construct 2

Post » Thu May 19, 2016 2:58 am

Dear awesome community,

I am a novice construct2 user and I am working on my very first game.
Its just a simple endless runner where everything is hidden and only the objects are light up by a single lantern on the sealing.
But I have noticed that lighting is not the easiest thing in construct 2.
I couldn't find a tutorial anywhere :/

How can I make a lantern to light up the post ? the post should also have a shadow genereated ;)

Very Kind regards,
Cedric

You could have the value (brightness) of obstacles be at zero when outside of the lantern's range, then the value will be increased to normal level as it moves closer within range.
The background would also have to be black (or whatever colour you have the obstacles fade from) if you want the obstacles to be unseen to the player before they become lit by the lantern.

I think I explained my idea the wrong way ;)
the lantern moves with the obstacle ;) see it as a hallway where you run throug

I see, I was under the assumption that the player was carrying the lantern.
So, is the lantern(s) stationary relative to the obstacles?
If so, then you can still use the advice I gave you, but instead of having it update every tick, it would only be run once; that is unless you have moving objects or the player be lit up by the lantern(s).

@magikarp The lantern keeps holding on the same position as the obstacles. So it moves together. If I could I would upload my capx.

@glerikud Believe me I searched them :P if it was there I would post this question :) I saw a post on the forum with a guy who has made an amazing example on what I would like to accomplish but I got no answere on there :D light-and-shadows-drawing_t106379?start=10
