making retro games

Discussion and feedback on Construct 2

hey guys...I am assuming there are copyright issues with making a clone of a retro game like space invaders or something and then monetizing it? is that the case?
thanks!

Depends on how close the clone is. If you're not using the actual name of the game, or any of its graphics, it's probably going to be difficult difficult for the owning company to do anything about it.

That said, in my opinion it's in poor taste, unprofessional, and sleazy to release any sort of exact clone for monetization purposes. Why can't you just come up with your own concept?sqiddster2013-09-28 02:05:21

You can make a similar game, but straight-up cloning a game and selling it can get you into some legal issues

You should ask them for licensing about Space Invaders IP.

I guess they give you overpriced cost, most indie games never licensed to other brands.

Cloning games and making fangames is the best way to learn from the pros. If you want to sell, its fine as long as you use different graphics/music/words.
