• ... and so the madness continues....

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-16642369

• To be fair, these file-sharing websites are filled with pirated content

• No big loss, actually.

• uh oh Who's next Dropbox maybe?.If things carry on like this there would be no more file sharing anywhere. They are going backwards not forward this time.

• This is the important part of the linked news:

"It begs the question that if you can find and arrest people who are suspected to be involved in piracy using existing laws, then why introduce further regulations which are US-only and potentially damaging."

I hope US citizens will wake up before it is too late and fight SOPA...

• tulamide has the point. This is just another case of corporate america filling the pockets of politicians to get their own way.

sad day.

• While it sets a really bad precedent, I can't say I'll miss MegaUpload... loads of ads and obnoxious fake "wait for server to be ready..." messages. Hopefully now everyone will move to Dropbox which does the same thing but without the obnoxiousness :)

• counter-attack

• I don't particularly care that MegaUpload has been shut down, but what I am concerned about is it could be a foot in the door for other similar actions on other sites.

• Try Construct 3

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
• "It begs the question that if you can find and arrest people who are suspected to be involved in piracy using existing laws, then why introduce further regulations which are US-only and potentially damaging."ecause the servers were running in the US and the owners were in countries with copyright laws and extradition treaties. SOPA is about people hosting content say in China where nobody can touch them.

Noteworthy point is that MegaUpload has been violating the DMCA safe harbor provisions, i.e. they did not take down content that they were told was infringing copyright. So.. good riddance.

• The problem here is that the government is using a scapegoat to justify an act of intimidation. Look at the timing: this is a big middle finger to the SOPA and PIPA protests, as if to say "we ARE going to take down sites our paymasters don't like, and pretty soon we won't even need a real reason, so get used to it".

Instead of thinking of all the illegitimate content on Megaupload -- and I will admit, there was plenty of it -- think of all the people hosting legitimate files on it who just lost everything. Think of all the copyrighted content on Youtube, much of which stays up forever and ever; why isn't it getting shut down instead? The part I like best: Swizz Beatz, the CEO of the whole organization, has NOT been arrested...who says you can't buy justice?

• If you have uploaded any of the files for this forum on megaupload, you now have to re-upload it somewhere else because Megaupload was taken down by the FBI yesterday. Just thought some of you could need this information.

EDIT: Also for those that didn't know, this might not be permanent, this is like the TPB trials all over again. FBI going mad over piracy, Closes down the site due to press from the big companies, hacktivists strike down the FBI sites, news for next few weeks.

EDIT: Thanks for the move Kyatric.

• The US government have gone too far.

I lost some legal files on MegaUpload.

• I'm not quite sure but I'm curious. Is MegaUpload somewhat affiliate/the same with MegaVideo? Cuz the way I see it, they somehow have the same template on their site. I think they are anyway.

• Yeah they're all from the Mega brand. Megaupload Megavideo MegaPron etc...
