Discussion and feedback on Construct 2

Post » Sun Feb 03, 2013 3:39 am

Hello everyone,

Ludei is releasing a new version of the system with plenty of improvements this week so stay tuned. About physics, it is true: JavaScript is not the perfect fit for this kind of computation intensive tasks. Our native binding will be improved in the next release but can't promise all the features we support will fit your needs. Box2D is quite huge.

About GameCenter and Facebook integration, out next release will include a much more compelling social and social gaming API so you will be able to handle Facebook, GameCenter and Twitter with a single code. Hopefully this will help Scirra to integrate these features.

Scirra is doing a great job exporting to CocoonJS. Their update frequency and productivity is simply outstanding (we would like to be as productive as they are but we have many difficulties in the way: Apple approvals, cloud integrations/sycnhronizations, ...). We are going to try to improve our support for Construct2 engine and we try to help Ashley whenever he needs anything from us.

Regards,
Iker

@ludei @ashley Keep up the great work, I know this mobile stuff is a moving target and it is REALLY hard to keep up, but you are doing great. Thanks for everything so far. Looking forward to what is coming out!

@CrystalNoir - the reason we can export Windows 8 and WP8 directly is because the browser engines are fast (hardware-accelerated). The Android stock browser is not hardware accelerated which makes it shockingly slow for gaming, and CocoonJS fixes that. Chrome for Android is a lot faster, but AFAIK can't be used in native apps yet (you still get the slow stock browser).

@Ashley : It seems that WebGL is not supported on mobile platform.

I tried to export Html 5 and make an android project with MoSync, but the problem is the same, because there is no hardware acceleration. But it seems that with MoSync we have the capabilities to use OpenGL directly (Mosync let us make android app with html5/javascript), but I don't know how and if this is possible to integrate a C2 project in it.CrystalNoir2013-02-04 09:16:32

WebGL support on mobile is gradually coming: Firefox and Chrome beta for Android support it, BB10 supports it, and Firefox OS will support it. MS and Apple are holding out for now though. We're not really interested in alternative OpenGL engines, since WebGL is the standardised way of using OpenGL from Javascript and should eventually be coming to Android anyway.

New version of CocoonJS 1.3 is released now, http://blog.ludei.com/new-cocoonjs-release-1-3/ , @Ahsley , Can we get those implemented in the CocoonJS plugin of Construct 2 at the earliest ? These are some essential feature what we needed in our game.

@Ashley, Any timeframe u can provide when this will be implemented in CocoonJS plugin , so that we can decide whether to release or wait and release our game ?

Can't give an ETA I'm afraid but we're definitely aiming to support at least GameCenter soon!
