  • Greetings,

    Newbie here with a general question for the community. I've searched dozens of threads and I've read all sorts of conflicting data and opinions.

    I've created a simple game, nothing but basic platform behavior and no more than 5 (gif) images, and yet after I export with phone gap builder, and boot it up on my Android device, my app is depressingly slow, to an unplayable degree. It starts, and immediately slows down.

    Is there a simple solution? Are there alternatives to phone gap that don't cost an a small fortune?

  • My experience went as such,

    Downloaded Construct 2, loved it, saw phone gap advertised as doing the trick, and assumed the situation was better than it actually is.

    Kind of a bummer.

    Furries was made by ranma. Try this game out once it runs perfect. It was made with C2, and PhoneGap. Then read through the whole thread ranma gives you all the information you need to get top performance using C2, and PhoneGap.

    Or you could always try using appMobi.

    I have tried all of the known HTML5 game engines out there, and Construct 2 is by far the most advanced, user friendly one on the market.

    You can't go wrong with Construct 2 :D

    Edit: No it's not useless :) But you can do more with the Eclipse IDE, and phonegap.

    don't get to excited, appmobi probably won't give you much of a boost in fps if you're not using their direct canvas, which is quite costly. it's true, that probably you'll have to just wait until the webgl is supported on more mobiles than it is now. also, as soon as you learn to phonegap without using phonegap build (ie. eclipse for android) and start using phonegap plugins, you'll feel like this:

    and yes, read through the Furries thread, it'll give you some directions about how to optimize your game to run on mobiles, and don't get discouraged. have fun! :)

  • I'd recommend reading the performance tips manual entry. We're also planning directCanvas support soon (hardware-accelerated games for mobile), which should give a big boost to framerates on iOS and Android. Keep an eye out for that.

    Im glad to hear it, actually it only supports iOS devices, there a beta version for Android.
