  • *sorry if this is in the wrong place. D:*

After spending 3 HOURS looking for some tutorials for Construct, I couldn't find anything except the Ghost Shooter. This did not please me, for the fact I don't have much source to help me learn.

I'm horrible at teaching myself things, like HTML. 1 Month and all I know is the basic <html> tags

So, is there for some reason a hidden site where they have Construct tutorials/guides, or does everyone have to teach themselves?

  • There is no such site because Construct doesn't really have that large a user base yet.

Check out samples and stuff in the Uploads section. And read Help threads. Then there's the Wiki. The search feature is also your friend... chances are if you're just starting out then someone has already asked the question that you want to ask.

And if you can't find what you need... ask for help in the Help section . Someone will help you out.

Ah, thanks, I'll go search for the stuff now!

EDIT: Hmm, didn't find much in the Help Section, and the Uploads Section does have the stuff, but it's too much for my brain :S

  • Reading everything on the wiki will help, and selecting file/new template/example and having a browse through the examples should help.

It can be quite time-consuming making a good tutorial (I think the Ghost Shooter one took a couple of days). I'd really appreciate if anyone else came up with tutorials - I'm stretched for time as it is, and time spent writing tutorials (although useful) is time spent not coding Construct. Still, eventually, I'll get round to writing some more, if noone else does.

  • Is it safe to assume you have no prior inexperience with this type of program? I guess most users here have used game maker/multimedia fusion/ect before so Construct is just a nice upgrade. But yes, for a person fresh into this it can be overwhelming, because Construct is powerful. Lucky for you we have a friendly, helpful group that is growing, and everyone is friendly and ready to help!

The best thing to do early is try to clone pac-man, pong, breakout, ect, then slowly build up to more complex stuff. I know, I know, you want to make Final Fantasy VII 2, but you gotta get the basics down first!

I'll gladly make an example cap of something simple (or a basic platform tutorial) if you want. I'm not the best instructor though Just gimme a few hours, and I'll post a few.

  • A tutorial for a simple game, Busta Ball.

Still has a few errors, but I'll fix them later.

  • Hahaha, you make it sound like pacman clones are dumb I've been working on a pacman clone game for nearly a year now. Not in construct but still...

LOL maybe I should have said maze games

What game have you been working on? I've made two pac-man wannabees called crazy skulls (they are pretty poor though) but great learning experience!

  • I was working on a 3D remake of a Pacman remake called "Coneman" it was an old Net Yaroze game on the playstation and it was absolutely awesome. Me and the friend who were working on it kind of drifted apart though and updates are almost non-existant now.

Maybe I'll restart the project in Construct.

Hey, why don't you post up your two pacman games so I can take a look?

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • Yeah the 3d box would be a nice alternative to isometric sprites, I say go for it!
