Multiplayer with HTTP Request and MySQL

I am planning on this -
now my question - does somebody have experience with it ?

More concrete - i would be interested in how many HTTP Requests can be handled by average Webspace/servers per second -

way more or way less than - lets say... 100 ?

Addition :
I am not talking about VPS Hosting or dedicated Servers... just the average Joe - webpackage one can get for a few bucks per month

depends on connection quality(ping delay), size of packages(bandwidth), server app speed(script+db[un/lock tables]) and number of connections.
Impossible to give a general answer here :(

Host WebSocket (VPS) + MySql is a good idea. I tested for my micro game (MMORPG) and... is good.
