C2 was working perfectly before. But today when I opened it, it had no startpage. Now, when I go to preferences, I see "show start page" unticked and greyed out with written "licensed only".
So, is the start page disabled for free users? Why?
It's not disabled for free edition users, it should in fact always be enabled without being able to turn it off. However we had issues with the start page crashing some people's computers, and weren't able to fix it since it was a rare and difficult to reproduce problem. Instead if Construct 2 detects it crashed last time it ran it will disable the start page. Unfortunately in the free edition the option is still disabled so you can't turn it back on again... you could try just pressing the 'Start page' button on the ribbon to get it back.
