Oculus Rift support?

Discussion and feedback on Construct 2

Post » Sun Sep 21, 2014 8:03 am

VR is growing rapidly, even in it's current developer state. I'd like to make games for these gear, but I'm not sure that is there a plugin that supports that with C2. Or can we expect a future offical support in the engine?

Surely there is no point of making anything 2D for VR goggles? VR requires you to turn your head to look around a 3d environment.

It should not be limited to only 3D. I know, it has it's potentian in 3D, but you could make some games for it with 2D too. Take a relaxing rythm game or something else. Think about that it has your full view field and not just the head tracking.

Yeah, it would be awesome for my game because it would totally make people throw up in like 3 seconds. Pretty hilarious :D

How would you play a 2d game with oculus rift? Its basically like having a computer monitor strapped your face. Not much point if you ask me.

Someone will probably make a way so you can view any 2D applications/games/movies as if you were viewing it on a massive TV/imax. (Although you'd probably want the oculus to be higher resolution first.)

Now I would want to see that! Ok...maybe I don't want t see someone puke! Haha but it would be fun to see who can make the most head splitting, tummy churning game! I say I could do a Lamborghini and make it 2.9 seconds :P Haha!

I own an oculus rift and it is actually amazing for 2d games as well when you use it with depth. It is like 3DSx1000. So if used correctly you could make really awesome 2D games for the oculus. So don't think its only good for 3D :)

But how to implement it in C2 is another question :P

If you use depth, a third axis, it's no longer 2D. If you read this unity tutorial you may understand =>
http://www.third-helix.com/2012/02/05/making-2d-games-with-unity.html

However, to get to the point quickly look at this image from the same article => Image

If you're talking about what a 3DS is doing, a pop out effect, then I believe that is possible since you can give each eye a separate light source. A while ago there were talks of Nintendo supporting HTML5 games on the 3DS, https://www.scirra.com/forum/nintendo-to-allow-html5-games-on-wii-u-and-3ds_t81211, Not sure what happened with that other than getting the Wii U exporter.

If you want to get a C2 game on the OR you can do so with NodeJS => https://docs.google.com/document/d/1qICpwaL8WoJFxkXsSIJOcBZ9lnnNQvd_wYTYUMxPVjQ/edit (Not sure who wrote this document, but there are probably more out there if you search for it). However, it will probably be as flat as a pancake, but not sure as I have never used the OR SDK.
