  • VR is growing rapidly, even in it's current developer state. I'd like to make games for these gear, but I'm not sure that is there a plugin that supports that with C2. Or can we expect a future offical support in the engine?

  • What good is it for 2d games? Or am i missing something.

  • Surely there is no point of making anything 2D for VR goggles? VR requires you to turn your head to look around a 3d environment.

  • It should not be limited to only 3D. I know, it has it's potentian in 3D, but you could make some games for it with 2D too. Take a relaxing rythm game or something else. Think about that it has your full view field and not just the head tracking.

  • Yeah, it would be awesome for my game because it would totally make people throw up in like 3 seconds. Pretty hilarious

  • How would you play a 2d game with oculus rift? Its basically like having a computer monitor strapped your face. Not much point if you ask me.

  • Someone will probably make a way so you can view any 2D applications/games/movies as if you were viewing it on a massive TV/imax. (Although you'd probably want the oculus to be higher resolution first.)

Now I would want to see that! Ok...maybe I don't want t see someone puke! Haha but it would be fun to see who can make the most head splitting, tummy churning game! I say I could do a Lamborghini and make it 2.9 seconds Haha!

  • Try Construct 3

  • I own an oculus rift and it is actually amazing for 2d games as well when you use it with depth. It is like 3DSx1000. So if used correctly you could make really awesome 2D games for the oculus. So don't think its only good for 3D

But how to implement it in C2 is another question

  • If you use depth, a third axis, it's no longer 2D. If you read this unity tutorial you may understand =>

    http://www.third-helix.com/2012/02/05/making-2d-games-with-unity.html

However, to get to the point quickly look at this image from the same article =>

If you're talking about what a 3DS is doing, a pop out effect, then I believe that is possible since you can give each eye a separate light source. A while ago there were talks of Nintendo supporting HTML5 games on the 3DS, https://www.scirra.com/forum/nintendo-to-allow-html5-games-on-wii-u-and-3ds_t81211, Not sure what happened with that other than getting the Wii U exporter.

If you want to get a C2 game on the OR you can do so with NodeJS => https://docs.google.com/document/d/1qICpwaL8WoJFxkXsSIJOcBZ9lnnNQvd_wYTYUMxPVjQ/edit (Not sure who wrote this document, but there are probably more out there if you search for it). However, it will probably be as flat as a pancake, but not sure as I have never used the OR SDK.

  • Also this is someone getting their 3DS working on an Oculus Rift => http://www.engadget.com/2014/09/15/oculus-rift-3ds/

  • In my opinion, a 2d environment should provide more relaxed depth perception experience than a full fledged 3d world. I think that anaglyph 3d could be already possible with some post effects. But for active, pasive or OR methods of viewing, as was previously stated, you'll need a 3d workspace and 2 cameras.

By the way, I'll take this opportunity to beg for a 2.5d workspace, again

I have no doubt in my mind that this will happen. I use 3 monitors at work and at home, and with an oculus rift I could have something ridiculous like 80 borderless monitors. In fact, I think the entire notion of flat desktops might end with the rift - the desktop of the future might look more like a "headsphere', and that's considering current control schemes (keyboard and mouse).

The rift will revolutionize book reading, movie watching and working.

  • Yeah, I can imagine it now. Everybody working in an office looking like a twat! Same as 3D TVs... everyone loves to wear glasses in their own home. Google glass I hear you say? 'Asshole' replies the media.

In my opinion VR wont take off at home until you have the holodeck experience, and watches have the best chance in the wearable market at this moment in time.

  • TheWyrm Have you ever tried the Oculus yourself? You can't compare it with a 3D tv or Google Glass because the VR is on a whole new level and everyone I've showed it to just loves it. Its so mindblowing when you can actually walk inside the game and you feel that you can pick up and touch everything you see.

As usual the porn industry will decide if it gets in to every home just as they did with the dvd. But it looks like they already decided to jump on the VR train according to the articles I've read.

And it can be used in so many ways. I watched the movie Gravity with my Oculus a few weeks ago and that was awesome on IMAX but holy Fu*k when I saw it in VR! I thought I was in space and it felt like you were floating around with the actors! No one will ever pay to go to the movies again when you can get 100 times the experience from your own home. With the VR you don't see any screen borders just total immersion.

I can guarantee that cinemas will be one of the first who have to change once this is commercial and every seat will have a VR device. The "regular screen" will just be used for indie movies and other small productions.

This is not my opinion its a fact
