  • A lot of the new games are great and all but at heart I am a old school gamer. What are your favorite console games starting from N64 on back? What did you find innovative?

Some of my games would be:

1.) The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES)

    2.) ogre battle 64 (N64)

    3.) Mega Man X (SNES)

4.) Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (SNES)

6.) Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest (SNES)

    7.) Metroid (NES)

    8.) Castlevania (NES)

    9.) Final Fantasy (NES)

    10.) Illusion of Gaia (SNES)

These are just 10 games that defined my childhood and continue to have a large influence over me when it comes to game design. What are your old school games? What games made your childhood?

  • Castlevania SOTN

    Megaman

    Guilty Gear

    Chrono Trigger

    Pokemon

The binding of isaac (is new but is old school style)

  • Oooooh yeah. Chrono Trigger is one of the greats, and of course Pokemon is a blockbuster genre unto itself.

  • Why limiting yourself to console games? There was so much fun in computer games as well in the 8 and 16 bit days!

  • I honestly did not get into pc gaming till about 2001 or 2002. First PC games I ever played were Sim City 2000, Nox (awesome game that I still play), Unreal Tournament, and Blood II: The Chosen (yet another game I still play from time to time.

  • The Secret of Monkey Island will always have a very special place in my heart. I think it was the first game I played that was really well-written - genuinely funny, with great dialogue and characters. For a young me who'd mainly played platformers and shoot 'em ups until that point, that was quite eye-opening and definitely changed the way I thought about games.

  • Far too many to pick from, but the first 3 that came to mind were:

    Zelda (NES)

    SF2 (SNES)

    NHL Hockey (Genesis)

  • B-wings (NES)

    Battle City (NES)

    Load Runner (NES)

    Excite Bike (NES)

    Road Fighter (NES)

    Contra (NES)

    Cadillacs and Dinosaurs (CPS1)

    Punisher (CPS1)

    Ultimate Mortal Kombat (SNES)

Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers (SNES)

    That's my childhood right there....

  • Ultimate Mortal Kombat

    Need For Speed

    Two killer games!

  • Dude. Excite bike. Good one.

  • Noice! A whole lot of sexy going on in that picture.

Oh boy, I remember playing SimCity 2K after school. It's rough by today's standard, but it did make you feel like you were making your own city. I think it was the great terrain generator. It made every city look different and also added some limitations on how you could build your city.
