old stuff

Hey Paisanos,

Started working on a Mario style template sort of on the side, that I'm hoping to release in the Scirra Store later this month (ambitious). I know there are already a few of these out there, but I thought it could be a fun little project to release in a shorter amount of time. Graphics, of course, are original - albeit inspired by a certain Italian plumber. Among other things, I'm planning on including original music, sound effects, and a relatively modular system for anyone who wants to take their Mario Maker-ing to the next level.

(ok, probably not quite as robust as Mario Maker, as far as templates go)

Thanks for checking it out!

@HR78 - thanks for checking it out!

Here's a quick update - parsed a TMX file for enemy and NPC placement, as well as a mushroom - type power up.

This is really cool! Are you going to add any other elements, such as holding items or anything like that?
I like how your quick project looks more polished than a lot of full games. :P

Ha! That plays a lot smoother than I thought.
Loving the powerup. Very cool idea instead of a fireflower.
I noticed there are a few issues, such the character being able to run ahead of the camera a bit, but it's taking shape really well.

I look forward to seeing what you have next. :)

Really well done and fast moving.
One thing: it could move equally well with a higher resolution graphic (let's say at least 4X)?

When do you think you'll have a capx ready? I'd like to have the capx, because I wanted to take this and extend it by building a Super Paper Mario flip mechanic to it, so that it'll have an extra mechanic where you can press say F key to flip and switch perspectives. Could make for interesting puzzles.

Here's a gif to illustrate what I mean:

Example capxs:

Zelda-Style Inventory

Zelda Health

3-saveslot system

I'm actually pretty close.. maybe another week or two? That looks great btw, interested in how you would pull that off!

I'm probably going to use eight direction movement, and model the graphics in blender.
