OUYA: A New Kind of Video Game Console

Discussion and feedback on Construct 2

Post » Tue Jul 10, 2012 10:12 pm

To be honest the topic title made me somewhat skeptical, thoughts blazing back to the hype for the Phantom. Looking at the video though, I'm definitely interested. I do agree with them on one point, the console market have become really constricted of late. Microsoft tried to do something with its Indie label, but they have pushed it aside hard and it's relatively useless. OUYA seems to focus on catering to smaller development teams. Maybe this is the kick in the nuts the console market needs.

I personally prefer gaming on a TV (unless it's something that needs a mouse like FPS'es or something) and would LOVE to be able to develop for a console. I'm hoping this works out.

Edit: I really hope the face buttons on the pics aren't final.inkBot2012-07-10 22:18:29

They made like 600K in an couple hours. It is already funded and getting another 10K every 2 minutes. People have spoken.

Wow they already surpassed their goal.

"$1,033,993
PLEDGED OF $950,000 GOAL"

It's pretty cool they already have Unity as a launch partner.
Since it's based on Android, why wouldn't cocoonjs work on it?
I would think yes, I think the issue you would run into is gamepad support and maybe sound support.

So it's "for the developer" yet they strive to make games as cheap as possible, hackable, and ideally, free? ...What?

Also isn't Steam doing pretty much the exact same thing except with 100x the funds and more experience?

I believe it will support games created in construct 2, as long as they are ported through Cocoon JS and Appmobi wrapped as an Android game app. If they are on the android market, they will be/should be compatible.

I recently asked them this very question and i am waiting on their response. The console will use Android 4.0 with a good amount of great hardware, so any game created in C2 should run fairly smooth.

If this platform takes off, i am pretty sure Tom and Ashley will be all over it and add full support inside C2 once their specifications are revealed.Animate2012-07-10 23:09:03

They've pledged to give away about 6000 consoles at the $95 price point, including a wireless controller. That's pretty ambitious!Ashley2012-07-19 14:33:48

Yes you are right Steam is already great for indies but it doesn't mean their is no room for another player ! Additionnaly it's Hacker friendly which is interesting ... who knows what a nation of hackers can imagine/create.

In someway this strategy remind me the one of Facebook at the beginning:

" I create a platform and i let you guys add whatever you want on it, we both earn money and increase the community" in FB case we need to add " untill I change my mind and the rules" :)Ketoulou2012-07-10 23:44:40
