Particles. How to activate?

Hi,

I want to set a one shot particle that activates on an event. However I can't find a way to do it. Is there a way to set a one shot that will fire this way?

Just set it to one shot over in preferences, might set the attributes to destroy on start as well.
Then use system create, or have an object to spawn it in the event.
