Piracy In Construct 2?

Discussion and feedback on Construct 2

Post » Fri Mar 07, 2014 2:33 pm

Hello Guys! I Want To Tell You All Something Really Interesting. I Have A Friend Whom I Told About Construct 2 And He Was Amazed And Told Me That He Also Wants To Develop For Android, I Said For That Everyone Has To Pay For License. At That Point, He Was Sad But After 5 Seconds He Was Smiling And Laughing! I Asked The Reason, And He Said That He's Gonna Download Paid Business Version Of Construct 2 From The Net, I Told Him Not To Do That But He Did And Started Developing, After About 1 Month, His Game Was Complete And He Launched That On The Play Store [ He Did Not Told Me The Name For Security Reasons, I Guess He Was Afraid That I A Gonna Hand Him Over To Construct 2 Guys! :P ] Using Fake License And You Guys Wont Believe It, He Is Now Making Above 2000$! After He Got Enough Money He Bought A Business License On His Own Name. I Told Him That He Did A Illegal Job And He Could Face Legal Actions! But He Said That He Eventually Paid For The License So He Is Not In Trouble!
My Question Is That Can Anybody Do That? My Friend Raised A Valid Point. Construct 2 Terms Says That In Order To Publish To Android, You Need A License And Eventually My Friend Bought It, Later Or Sooner, Does'nt Matter! What Matter Is That He Bought It! I Guess That Is Not Illegal! Is It? Can I Do That Too? :P :)

Of course it's illegal. Can you go into a store and take whatever you'd like with the promise that you'd pay for it later?

Yes this was illegal. You can´t steal a car and then months later pay for it. However, chances are nobody will ever find out unless you are not a good friend.

At the end, Scirra didn´t have any loss (since he did buy a license), but if they wanted to they still could sue him if they can gather enough evidence. I don´t know the developers, but chances are they don´t care enough about a few bucks and it´s probably not even worth all the legal stuff and paperwork.

Btw, 2.000$... I´m a bit jelly now. Oh boy, that should pay my bills for study (instead of calling random people and trying to sell them bullshit, lol)

No its illegal, you can't do it. Buy the licence first then develop.

He shouldn't have done that, Personnal licenses are not for dogs as they say. He was not in term with the license, he was wrong, do not do it, if you need to make money in any kind of way with C2, buy a personnal license, it is cheaper and same feature, just limited on commercial profit you can make (at most 5000$, the buisiness license is 500$ so it's fine).

I do not care about if he think it is fine, it isn't fine, it is not respecting the license he agreed by using C2.

EDIT: I also find this disrespectful to every legit C2 user that struggle to make money

I don't understand people like this... it's illegal off course, but

Construct2 personal license is like 120$... you can try the free version and consider if the cost is good or bad...

for my personal opinion I think the cost is very good and everyone who has a computer and like to get a new experience 120$ isn't enough... is not 5000$ ... if you spent 120$ and in the future you will not make money from your application, is a sort of investment...

Yeah, I Get It! It's Illegal But In The End Scirra Is Not Suffering Any Loss And For Few Bucks, The Formalities And Paperwork Is Not Worth It! :) But Happy Ending As Scirra Is Also Happy And Developer Is Happy Too! He Should'nt Have Done That! :/

Few bucks, when (yip he will one day) he gets caught it is payday for scirra (adobe, other software he is using), What's the going rate for pirated software? $200,000 or is it more?
And if not able to pay its straight to jail and usually both.
Sure there is paperwork, but piracy kills business. Drains profits and derails good products like C2.

Edit: Don't kid yourself because he cheated the system once, twice, hundred times. It will catch up, and when it does - Lots of tears.
If he makes money and put himself on radar, he is going to get caught.
$2000 is small change, but also not a living, so he will always try to make more, and one day - Bullseye

I have just one tiny question for you: What if you don't suceed enough to pay the license? you still used it after all, even if you didn't suceed.

Also piracy is bad, sure, he paid it after, but scirra didn't get paid in between the usage and the profit, and that is bad.

anyway, scirra has chosen their conditions, accept it or don't use it, it's as simple as that.
