Platforming jumping issues.

Get help using Construct 2

I haven't found any posts about this, but curious how can i make the jumping system work more like super mario bros.

I know another post on such a popular game, but I have an issue, that haven't seen a fix for yet. basically if you play the original super mario bros. Mario's while jumping does move in the direction your jumping, but while falling or in air.

The player can't move him left or right, like the default platform does, where if you jump you can easily avoid a pitfall and enemies. causing the game to be too easy.

i thought to set "platform on falling to something. but i couldn't figure it out. Any ideas, how to make jumping system as close to mario's style. thanks

Let me see if I have this right, you want to make your character jump, and while falling you can not move him left and right. But if you hold left/right then jump he will continue to jump in the direction he was moving before he jumpped ?

I just spent the last 20 minutes playing Mario Bros. to get a better idea of what you ment, and this is what I came up with. Let me know if it's helpful or even close to what you wanted.

Doesn't seem to be disabling the movement while falling right. As you can see mario, can only change direct when on the floor and not while in the air. its like in real life. once you jump forward you can't change the opposite direct.

@Aphixe Is this anywhere near what you want?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in Super Mario Bros 3 you can affect the motion even while jumping. Try jumping towards the right side and while in the air, hold the left button. Reducing the acceleration & deceleration can yield similar effects.

On the other hand, here's an example cap if you want to strictly disable influence on movement when jumping:

@aruche The first one feels right. The second one is good too. as far as super mario 3. Since i've still got my Nintendo. I tried a bit of super mario 3. it handles a bit like first. but if anything its much like the first link. do you have an example of your first.
