Player and Bent Pipe

Discussion and feedback on Construct 2

Post » Mon Aug 29, 2011 10:21 am

Hi All,

I have just Purchased Construct 2, and am no expert as yet.

I have a human player sprite, and a large pipe with a curve
in it, as a solid platform.

The Player always sits 10mm above the bend in the pipe, it
appears it can only follow straight blocks, as it sits on
top of the Alpha/Invisible portion of the pipe.

Is this correct if so, many games will not work for me.

Cheers

Hi, can you post the .capx showing what you mean, and also tell us what you were hoping to happen instead?

Sure sounds like a bounding box collision problem (the only type currently available in C2 if I'm correct?).

Construct 2 doesn't have fine collisions yet, so objects will collide with their bounding box (i.e. what you see when you select it in the layout editor).

Hopefully a future build will add it!

We need sprite-pixel collision or maybe faster: polygon-collision. I draw a simplified poly around my ship-sprite, routine must detect if that area overlaps the enemy-sprite.

Basically I decided to build my game upon collision between sprites, bounding box currently, so if You add something better, my game will work automatically nicer. :)

Thank you.

The plan is to add polygon collision soon, because it's much faster than per-pixel collision. It might mean a little more work setting accurate polygons (Construct 2 will try to guess the polygon, but it can never read your mind and get it 100% exactly what you want), but it will be worth it for the speed boost.

Will we be able to do the collision polygons ourselves?
