I've said from the very beginning that GWEN was originally made by Garry, and that I was porting it to Construct.

GWEN is also MIT licensed, which means Garry doesn't really care. Do you really think I would have attempted to release it without studying this? Not to mention that I approached Garry to ask if it was cool and received no reply.

Perhaps you guys should get your facts straight before jumping to conclusions. I've made maybe $25 total off of GWEN, which is less than half of minimum wage for how much work it took to get it rendering in Construct.Arsonide2013-01-06 13:04:16

Where exactly do you see yourself saying that you didn't create it but rather garry newman did? Further more, the license specifically tells you to include the license in all copies. You have not done so any thereby broken the license agreement.

On IRC, when I started making it, and more importantly, in the readme, in the credit to other authors and legal notes:
======================================================================

Credit to Other Authors : Garry Newman

======================================================================

Special Thanks           :

Edgar Muniz, Maegan Provan

======================================================================

Legal Notes              : This work is based on, but does not modify,
                  GWEN, an MIT licensed library written by
                  Garry Newman for the Source engine.

                  Human readable license: If you purchase
                  GWEN, you may use it for independent
                  games, which I define as any game or
                  application making either no money or
                  under $3500.

                  Blockbuster hits that make above that
                  amount need to contact me at
                  bmprovan@gmail.com for a $99 unlimited
                  license.

                  Piracy note: I cannot stop the unlicensed
                  use of GWEN, but know that you are not
                  sticking it to a big corporation, you're
                  hurting a guy that works at Walmart every
                  night that made this in his spare time.
                  A guy that has trouble eating every night
                  on his salary.

======================================================================
So get off my back.
You have not done so any thereby broken the license agreement.
The license you are quoting was not present on the Google Code page, which is all that existed when I ported this last year. The only mention of a license on that page was "Released under a "do whatever you want" MIT license." That was it. So, frankly, without a license, he's lucky I mentioned him at all. But hey - I'm a nice guy, and people deserve credit for their work.

This is the first I've heard of his migration to GitHub, where a license appears to be present. I can include that in the package as well if you like, but I never claimed to invent GWEN. I claimed to create the plugin that made it easy to use in Construct Classic.

EDIT: There, included. Now he's mentioned twice. Feel free to purchase it and verify. I could use the money.Arsonide2013-01-06 13:44:42

Um yeah the Github thing is new, as I looked it up when Arsonide told me he was going to port it over to a CC plug.
Further more if you felt someone made a mistake you should have contacted the owner of the site and or, author privately. Making false accusations like this is asinine.

There is obviously no ill intent here other than who ever joined the sight just to post.

I wish to thank Arsonide for his efforts in all of his plugs. The modest 9 bucks is far less than he deserves for his time and effort.

In the left sidebar, there's a link that says "MIT License" and that links to the MIT License.

Just in case you need to redistribute something off Google Code in the future. Some people just use the license function the software gives them.

Redistributing the whole thing like this seems good, tho. Even if you were modifying the software all you'd have to do is include the original license and copyright notice with your software... So everything's good here, I guess.

I don't even know why I'm posting this, really

Edit: Woah does this site use gravatar or something that's pretty radesalaka2013-01-06 21:03:39

We don't have an ill intent. We just want to see that those who did the work get proper credit. He's violating the license, and he's not crediting garry - even though the license permits that, it's still pretty rude. Nothing we've said was a false accusation.

And we're not going to "contact the owner of the site" when the problem is right here.

That links to a description of what MIT is, and a sample template. It isn't the license for GWEN. When I saw that I figured Garry just hadn't made one yet. On Github he actually has one set up properly, but Github was set up 17 days ago.

There are three false accusations in this post alone. I did credit Garry. I did do the work. I did not violate the license.

I have nothing but good intentions for this community. I've spent countless hours of development time trying to keep it from dying a slow death due to the release of Construct 2. The payment options of GWEN have resulted in it only getting out to five or six people, so in the interests of this community I've actually been considering sending out refunds and releasing it for free, so it actually gets used by more people, helping the community in the long run. I'd been considering that before you white knights showed up, but unfortunately I don't have the funds to do it, so GWEN will remain closed to payment for now out of respect for the people that have bought it.

There are plenty of causes out there to white knight. Coming into our community and attacking someone blindly without knowing what you are even talking about is not one of them.Arsonide2013-01-07 00:50:12

@arsonide,

i'm sorry for the rough treatment and false accusations that you suffered here as a result of your brilliant work porting 'gwen' to cc.

i have just run across it, while searching for other things on the cc forum section.

although i can understand why you would not want to invest the time in it, have you considered porting the plugin to c2? if not, would you consider it if you were commissioned at cost?

i really love the flexibility and inherent power built into this plugin for game design, as well as mobile app and desktop app design. i've thought of making a database with it, since watching your tutorial videos.

so i would like to make the offer of compensating you for the port. if it is something you would consider doing.

you deserve that much after what you endured in trying to be an asset to this community.

please let me know.
