PNG size

Discussion and feedback on Construct 2

Post » Wed May 29, 2013 8:34 am

I have a project that has lots of animations. I compressed my PNG's with PNGGauntlet program and their approximate size is about 70KB. But after using and exporting them in Construct 2 their size is about 130-200 KB. Is there a way for reducing size?

Hi @mrcgkh,

Construct 2 automatically compresses image files on export (C2 image compression).

Hope that helps :)

When you export, there is a drop down box allowing you to choose how compressed you want them. Make sure you have "Brute (very Slow!)" selected. It's only slow while compressing, not during play back.

Thank you @Paradox. Now size drops to normal levels.

Construct 2's PNG recompression tools are pretty sophisticated, and are lossless. Make sure PNGGauntlet isn't downgrading the colors to save on file size, which will affect the appearance of your games. I would strongly recommend you trust Construct 2 to do the right thing, since I don't think any third party tools can recompress as well as Construct 2 does losslessly.
