Random Maze Generator with Door & Key System - tutorial capx
  • I want to make a pokemon remake from the 1st gen games (Red, blue & yellow). How to do it won't be a big problem, I'm just wondering if it is going to be possible to play it from your phone, before I'm going to start working on it.

Note that the resolution I'm going to use is only 160 x 144. I'm going to use lots of tiles. I want it to be a complete clone, so not parts left out etc.

Will it be possible to play on a phone? Any tips on how to do it? Thanks :)

  • Try Construct 3

  • Unfortunately, this is probably something that you're going to have to make a quick prototype yourself and test out. I don't think there have been any large-scale rpgs like that for mobile devices made in C2.

  • It's possible in theory, but it's a deceptively complex game.

It's also Nintendo IP and could only ever be for your own use, so you only need to know if it will work on your phone...

would it not be better to make a tribute game, that has a touch of pokemon with your own ideas?..

mmm, you're right. I'll start working on it then

meh im not that original :3

It's not that I want to make a profit from it, I just want to do something and I'd like to play it if I can finish it. I don't know if I'm going to share it when it's done (if it gets done), we'll see about that :)

  • Usually companies don't really do much when you use their stuff as long as you're not receiving profit and not claiming the images as your own, which it seems you're not gonna do XD

THOUGH don't underestimate companies, some just hate it when anything of theirs is used in any way. Mario and Sonic fangames are very popular and do a massively great job at being a great game, but Sega and Nintendo don't seem to take those games down as far as I know. Go forth and make whatever you wish!

I second this. All the games I've created have been much more complex than I originally thought. A full-fledged RPG like Pokemon...just think about how many employees Nintendo had working on it...

  • Pokemon is a very complex game, you would have to get all the math behind battles 100% correct, and the mechanics behind all the moves in the game. I suggest you don't do it

  • It's possible, but RPGs are one of the most difficult genres to make due to so many overlapping features that need to work well together, so it's a significant task. If you're going to put so much effort into something, I also reccommend rebranding it with original content.

  • yo try to make your own pokemon Style game, that way you can set the rules your way.

I have created Rpg's so i know its a lot of work

  • Hmm... I'll create the engine first to see if it is gonna work, and then Ill see whether ill clone pokemon or create a different game. Thanks for all the feedback guys!

  • Pokemon itself has alot of factors in the overworld and the ingame battles, such as types, stats and not to mention the grass encounters. But it is possible, takes awhile, but its possible. As for phones, I'm not sure unless you can save the monsters on some online webserver or some jazz like that as I imagine adding 323 images could build up alot of memory usage and make it unplayable.

  • great, now I want to try this. logically I do not see why it is not possible.

You don't need 323 images displayed at once. So RAM is not an issue. Also, 323 pngs, let say even 1000x10000px is not that heavy download wise.

Yeah the first one was created in VB 6! Was just a group Project but very buggy... not finished! Had zelda Style Movement but had a very dark setting.

the Second one was to help a friend with the RPG maker. We just used the standart content shipped with the game maker, so that was nothing special. (bad Wizard kidnapping Sister and you have to get her back) ;-)

But it helped to understand how Rpg's work.

by the way would the "RPG Maker" not be the best tool to create a pokemon clone?

I remember it has an eventsystem as well and is easy to understand.
