  • C3 has been ok for my small tests, no problems with the editor, but i imported a large c2 project of 2000 plus events and the editor is almost unusably slow. Scrolling up and down is very sluggish, as is selecting and deselecting events, and opening and closing windows takes several seconds. Resizing events is very difficult which needs to be done with lots of nested subevents as the resize handles dont register until many seconds later.

I'm now very worried about if C3 can handle a large project.

Chrome can be a hassle sometimes. Have you tried fully shutting down your computer, and then trying again? I say this because many things can cause what you mentioned. if it still does it after a fresh reboot, eek.

    I'd start there though.

  • Hi, I just did as you suggested, shut down the chrome app then restarted my mac. Unfortunatly it's still the same. I just counted and it takes 7 seconds for menus to open and close such as the expression editor.

  • Maybe try on something other than a mac.

  • Hi, I don't have anything other than a mac, i made the jump to C3 so i no longer have to use C2 in bootcamp. Also isnt this why they made C3 browser based?

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Something else could be at play. Like I mentioned, Chrome can be funky. You could send the project to someone else to try and open. see if they experience the same issue.

If they don't try reinstalling chrome. disabling all plugins. make sure indexing is not running rampant. make sure time machine isn't going crazy. So many possibilities

  • It may just be a Safari Chrome issue.

Make a bug report if you want a fix.

The more information you supply, the quicker the solution will be.

  • be mindful thats its still technically in beta; if i understand correctly, the underlying code from c2 is different from c3, so it may just be a conversion issue. however, i'm curious what one uses 2000 events for. i'm able to create a majority of a game on -30 events, wondering if thats just a super packed game or i'm ahead of my time lol

  • I doubt my mac is the issue, its a few years old now but performance is good and the poor performance only happens in this instance. Also i installed Chrome simply to run C3 so there are no plugins or anything.

The game is 2000 events because its a sim city type game and there is a lot going on. It's not an issue running the game, the issue is the C3 editor itself. It doesnt look like it can handle displaying the events.

I guess i'll file a bug report but i don't want to upload the source file.

  • They don't want a full project.

Replicate the bug in a new project.

Given the nature of the issue, I would say copy and paste is a friend here.

  • There is no bug, it's a performance issue.

I read in another thread about recording the profile, so i'll try that instead.

I am still leaning towards your setup. I can run C3 running a VM of OSX and it appears to be fine to me (theoretically, this should run poorly compared to a physical machine running OSX natively). Unless there is something specific about your project...I would lean towards your setup more.

Feel free to send me your project and I will try it out.

  • Long shot, but have you tried a different browser yet? I know C3 is made with Chrome in mind but, except for User Media input (like voice recognition), it actually works fine in Opera.
