PR and marketing?

Looking to build a team or have a job to offer?

Post » Sat Jan 12, 2013 7:27 am

Scirra's created a great community with talented (and beginning) programmers, artists, musicians, and designers. But I'm curious; why does the help wanted section, the section where everyone with a dream and ambitions looks to accomplish more, see little to no focus on game marketing?

The "help wanted" section is a kind of jobs board.
If there are no proposed or demanding positions of PR/marketing, then probably there aren't such people in the forums or they all failed taking advantage of this forum so far.

Maybe because marketing is an afterthought? No point thinking about marketing if there's nothing to advertise ;)

That's a shame, considering marketing needs to be planned ahead with the rest of the game. But if that's how the users use the forum, then that's just how it works out.

most people are doing free projects just for fun, so they have no budget to pay for a marketer

I figured that much, I just figured there are so many looking to start indie that they should know to market. I thought indie marketers would advertise with the rest of the artists and composers.

I agree. Everyone wants a marketer, but the problem is that there is usually no budget as the game is built out of free time, so how do you pay the marketer?

Often there's not much to market.

@bWard we actually run a games marketing agency. We've built a number of internal web applications specifically for handling journalists, emailing press releases, keeping track of promocode distribution and monitoring coverage from publications.

@thehen that's interesting! Could you post more details? It's only a matter of time before someone makes a serious indie game with C2.
