I dont know scirra construct for a long time, but I definately agree that it is better than gamemaker.

Yeah, I think the idea of a free and a licensed version is good enough. But for me, the problem there is the price for the licensed version . I also like the idea of selling individual plugins or something for you to add to your free version just in case you don't want to have all the functions in the licensed version (depending if that system is going to work anyway).

For example, you have a free version and it has all the functions you need for your game except for one plugin which we'll call PluginA. Then you know that PluginA is included in the licensed version. So you can like buy only the PluginA and import it on your free version and you're all set to go. Something like that I guess.

What kind of differences will be between free and licensed version?
Can't import sprites?

We will not be restricting the functionality of sprite imports, don't worry!Tom2011-06-29 22:52:44

Sprite/image imports is like one of the basic things for a game development system. So it would be hell if it was not include. :P

An a la carte system sounds interesting, but I wonder how that would fit into the indie, and pro licensing.
Plus there's the thing about a dev kit for making plugs.
I guess they could disable importing of plugs for the free version. But that opens up a whole other can of worms.

That's the worst thing they could do, it's like you can buy a new car but can't get new wheels for it.
Whatever devs decide to do i just hope it's not gonna be like with Unity Pro and free version. I was so dissapointed when my Pro time expired and realize that things i did are no longer available. They took my game away .

Anyway i'm still a bit curious about what will free version have to offer. but C2 is looking so good, even now in early releases so probably will get full version. It's just worth it.

Right now plugins are just text files containing some javascript, so it's kind of tricky to think how they could be sold.

Oh really? So its kind of different to the plugins from Classic then. I see. Well maybe you can convert it to some unique file type if you could I guess. But C2 for now is good enough for me, I'm just going to be worried about the price *winks*.

For me it will be a pain to pay for it (since I have no money at all), so I was thinking, will the free version be as the paid version except for the commercial limitations? (meaning if I start making money with my games I should have the commercial version)... that way we can start developing and if something good turns out we can pay (in my case look for the funds to do so)
