Can't reproduce in r165 with Chrome, Firefox or IE11. The object is always correctly highlighted. Does this still happen for you?

Retested in R165

I also can't reproduce the problem in R165 in chrome.
It appears to be fixed.
Firefox and IE are also working as expected. but they didn't suffer from the issue in R163

win7 64bit
chrome 33.0.1750.154 m

Thanks
