R190 - jerking on IE, Chrome, Firefox, Opera

Bugs will be moved here once resolved.

@Zathan Hard to say. My game doesn't boot up at all in explorer. I always get a red loading bar. Chrome is the browser that runs the best, though the loading times can vary from 1-10 minutes for every preview session. Firefox is the most stable. It boots fast and runs well apart from V sync issues and some jaggyness, and also the ajax requests essential for my game to work never fails...

Edit: Though the V-sync is also present in chrome, despite running smooth.

Any new progress with jerkings? It is difficult to continue with C2 because of this :(

Ashley wrote:Are your graphics drivers up to date?

You also reported that IE11 is affected, which generally has had the best v-syncing quality. Are you sure it's affected? Is it the same on other systems? Are you sure it's not just that computer?

Dear Ashley,

10 mins ago I updated graphic drivers to make sure that problem is not in my computer. Jerkings are still here!

BTW ... as programmers we CAN NOT tell to our customers something like "update this / update that". Everyone with valid computer MUST run it - or it is OUR PROBLEM! I can understand to have updated web browser but HTML5 projects MUST work without problems.

I hope you will find and fix it soon.

Did you test on IE11? I can't see that you've addressed that point yet, and IE11 has typically had the best v-syncing performance. It's critical to report on this kind of information to identify browser-specific issues.

I can not install IE11 because neccessary updates show unknow errors while installing. I do not want to solve this problem with Microsoft because they have no true support. Because of this IE have around 10% of all browsers and if they will not change of policy, IE will fall.

So if my capx, video and posts (from others) is not enought for you that Construct 2 have JERKING ISSUE, I can not do anything more. I as programmer CAN NOT tell to others "use IE11". If Construct 2 can create HTML5 games, it MUST work on all browsers! No excuses! ... or maybe I overestimate C2.

I really not know how to help.

Well the first step to help is to identify if it's specific to your machine and which browsers are affected. If normal Windows Updates don't work are you sure that there isn't some system-wide issue that could be causing both Windows Updates to fail and performance issues in browsers?

Windows Updates work but specific updates required for IE11 not. If you open Google and try to search IE11 install problem, you will see that lots of people have problems with it. And Windows Updates CAN NOT cause performance issue because Chrome, Firefox and Opera not require this updates from Microsoft.

Affected browsers:
- Chrome 39
- FireFox 34
- Opera 26
- IE9 (not tested IE11)

Tested on three computers.

I tryed to play HTML5 games from some popular web pages. No jerking at all!

Ashley, If you NOT TRY IT YOURSELF and still think that jerking is not serious problem - leave it. Weaks ago I told you that you have missing Multiplayer section in downloadable manual. You told me that it is not true! ... but if you will download it, open and try to search multiplayer, you will find out that it is true. After all this messages from you, I think you have no serious interest in solving problems.

It is sad because C2 is nice tool! That basics is enought for me but at this moment I can not use it. I have some issues with Multiplayer Object but they are harder to explain. But jerking can be easily detected and you still pointing on my computer. Other users have same problem. I have contacts on web pages with web browser games. They can not tell to players something like "update graphics, what computer you have" etc... Games must work for all. Please test jerkings in IE11, Chrome, Firefox and Opera. If you will find performance issues, it must be repaired. Or C2 can not be used for developing games where movement smoothness is serious.

@Unknow01 he's asking you to test in IE11 to rule out issues... it's not a way to instruct people to use your game. It's merely ruling out what the problem is.

Sometimes if something works in Chrome and not in Firefox you can surmise that it's not a C2 issue at all. However, if some error is happening in all browsers maybe it is a true bug in C2 which is why he's asking to test in IE11.

There was an issue with jank in Chrome, but it seems to be fixed in version 39.

with that said, I just downloaded your capx and the jerking is quite bad in chrome39...

Here are my results...

Chrome 39 - jerking and stuttering is amplified by the acceleration parameter of the bullet behavior

FireFox - jerking is there, maybe not as bad, but had the screen blank out a few times before a redraw..

IE11 - smooth and has no problems..

so maybe the vsync issues are not fixed afterall in Chrome39?

I also tested this in Node Webkit (the older version) and there was a slight "jerk" at times, but something about it seemed different. So I made a version with the bullet behavior's acceleration set to 0 and the "jerk" was eliminated. The ball moves very smoothly around the screen.

@Ashley, it seems to me this problem is a combination of a remaining browser vsync issue along with some glitchiness in the acceleration of the bullet behavior. Or maybe the acceleration parameter was not meant to be used in that way?

I have Win 8.1, all my drivers are up to date and my computer is about 8 months old. However I am using C2 r187
