Hey chaps.

I am looking for a little inspiration,I am struggling to find a good direction for my current project. Was wondering if anyone knows of, and would be willing to point me towards good fun platformers(not exclusively, of course) that have a semi realistic approach to game play. So going easy on the magic missile/triple jump/shooting ideas.

Cheers!

Flashback and Out of this World (aka Another World) are both really good and have realistic running and jumping mechanics. Sort of similar to the oldschool Prince of Persia, only smoother. There's a bit of a learning curve to the controls though (more so for Flashback), so they might seem a bit stiff and awkward until you get them down.

Trine, although I guess it's not a classic platformer, it's pretty awesome. You can get it on sale for "pay what you want" in the humble bundle right now as well.

Here's the link: http://www.humblebundle.com

Edit: Might want to check out the Mirrors Edge 2D flash game as well, it's not the most realistic thing ever, but it's nearly as smooth flowing as the real/3D game: www.mirrorsedge2d.com

Blizzards Blackthorne is in veins of Another World and PoP also. Oh and Heart Of Darkness is very nicely animated. Another world, Flashback and Heart Of Darkness ware made by the same dude, thought Flashback is really missing out on good atmophere.

Eric Chahi didn't have anything to do with Flashback. They were made by the same studio, but he wasn't part of the production team.

There's this game: http://madgames.adventuredevelopers.com ... creens.htm called Between Heaven and Hell, which was influenced by most of the above that you could also check out.

There's also onEscapee, or I guess they're calling it The Escapee now: http://www.invictus-games.com/games/iph ... creenshots

I don't know why it's listed as an iPhone game. It used to be listed as a PC game, and a free one at that. I guess they just categorized it.

Anyway I remember it being a decent enough game.
