Running spine in Construct 2?

Discussion and feedback on Construct 2

Hello everybody!
Just wondering if it's possible to run spine in Construct 2? :)
I'm using Spriter right now, but would like to know if Spine is an option?

The answer is, it depends.

To get the Spine animation file to run in a Construct project you will need a plugin (just like with Spriter). The last I knew, the creators of Spine are not building these plugins. The are working on a json exporter which can be used to create a more generic plugin but, I have not yet found any specific plugin which has been built for Construct to make use of the json files created.

A few months ago, I took a look at both Spine and Spriter to decide which to get. I chose Spriter because there is a plugin being developed by Lucid so I didn't have to write my own.

If you prefer Spine you have 2 options. First build the animations in Spine and export to a series of sprites. Second, develop your own plugin (or find a developer who will) to run the animation file Spine puts out.

I hope this gives you the information you need.

I agree with @FragFather. Both Spriter and Spin store transformation and position data about the images that are used to form an animation. Spriter happens to have a Construct 2 Plugin that will add the Spriter Images and Data about the Images into the project and then interpret the transformation and position data at runtime when triggered by an event. Spine has official and third party plugins for Game Engines. Construct 2 is not one of them. However they do have a Generic Javascript Runtime Library that could be used from a Custom Construct 2 Plugin to render the animations. However that would be a lot of work. You could export Spritesheets from Spine I believe and instead attach those to Sprite Objects in Construct 2.

Using spritesheets or series of sprites "reduces" Spine to just an other animating software. The real power (as with Spriter) lays in small file size and, even more importantly, in features like animation blending. My point is that for the most part not having an importer/native plugin defeats the purpose of using these software.
