Safari error loading up game

Discussion and feedback on Construct 2

Post » Thu Dec 11, 2014 4:35 pm

I recently exported Hungry Hal to html5 and when I attempt to play it on my Ipad in Safari I get "A problem occurred with this webpage, so it was reloaded." The page then tries to reload a few times.

Chrome iPad - Crashes, closing chrome

Same error on Desktop version of Safari
Runs fine on Chrome on Mac Desktop

Has anyone seen this before? Any ideas how to find out what the issue is?

Seems to work fine on all non apple devices.

Sounds a bit like this bug report: https://www.scirra.com/forum/importing-certain-wav-files-crashes-on-safari_t120520

I think sometimes very short sound effects can produce a .m4a file that crashes Safari, maybe that's what's happened in your project? It's definitely a Safari bug, I'll try writing up a report for Apple.

Yup, when I set Preload Sounds to No, it starts up just fine. Now to figure out which sound it is haha.

I filed a bug with Apple here: https://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=139545

Thanks Ashley,
I found the sound that was causing the error. Once I removed it, everything worked fine.

@ArcadEd - was it the preload sounds option that you mentioned that fixed it? Or was it something else?

I had a similar issue where the game would work only the first time I loaded it in Safari on iPhone. The following times I'd open it, the loading would stop in the middle (default blue bar loading at the beginning) and never finish. The inspector console didn't seem to find any error, and the bar remained blue for ever, never turning to red.

Deactivating "preload sounds" did the trick, now it all works... except my game has no sound at all. :/

Might be good to mention I tried with another browser on iPhone (iBrowserFree) and I run into the same problem.

Some of the publishers I worked with in the past reported issues with sounds not working on iOS devices through browser. Editing the offline.appcache file and removing the path to all the audio files usually fixed the issue.
