Get help using Construct 2

Post » Sun Jun 16, 2013 4:51 am

hello everyone,

first off im new here an love construct 2, started using it 2days ago.

Ok so I am making a top down shooter game,

first problem is - I made a health sprite so when collected the player gets +50 health but my health gauge wont register it until I get damaged.

second problem - I imported a sound for the gun, now I cant use any other sounds because the sound option has disapeared.

third problem - I added a sound for the bullets but since you have to keep a instance of the bullet onscreen somewhere everytime the layout starts it plays the bullet sound.

forth problem - I combined the bullet an turret behaviours to get a moving shooting ai but I cant seem to get the ai to have a solid body, 'I can but then it acts weird' circling and running into walls.

think thats all for now lol

so any advice an help would be greatly appreciated, 1up for construct 2!

My apologies in advance for not downloading/testing/fixing the game...

I'll try to answer a couple of the questions at least if you're still having issues, but they may not be exactly what you'd like to hear.

First problem- Sounds like a problem with the conditions/actions in your event sheet... if it's a timing problem, try inserting a "wait" action BEFORE issuing the health increase... 0.05 seconds should do :P (Sorry if it's unclear or simply doesn't help)

Second problem- Never encountered that issue before... Sorry.

Third Problem- Sounds like another condition/action problem... I would suggest moving the play sound action to the key pressed condition... If you're using ammo, you could simply a sub-event with a check ammo variable condition... Or something similar.

Fourth Problem- Well, AI isn't exactly "easy" to work with... And combining those behaviors "can" result in unpredictable results... Time for trial and error I suppose... The new line-of-sight behavior may help, along with AI pathfinding. But again, trial and error.

The main resolution for most of these problems is digging into the event sheet and testing the changes. If any of these work/don't work, let me know.

You should upload to dropbox.com. Most people won't download from any server that bundles the download inside an EXE. (viruses...)

Thanks for the reply, I actually figured most things out except the sounds issue, I can only add 1 sound.

So annoying!

There is one more problem, I have a enemy with ai, and once destroyed I want it to respawn randomly, alls well except it keeps respawning about 10 a second.

umm no Im not signing up to another file storage site just to satisfy peoples paranoid tendencys, I've used mediafire for years as its head an shoulders above the rest, and its not bundled in a exe, its the capx file,
anyway I've started a new project and basically got to grips with construct 2 architecture.
