  • I finally got around to putting my sound system in my pansy little car.

    So, without further delay...

    Hardware List:

    1 x Pioneer DEH-P9850BT Head Unit

    1 x Soundstream Reference Series RC-60F Front Splits (180W RMS per side) LINK

    1 x Soundstream Picasso 760Watt RMS 2 Channel A/B Class Amp LINK

    1 x Soundstream Picasso 700Watt RMS Single Channel Monoblock D Class Amp LINK

    1 x Soundstream 1.2 Farad Capacitor with Digital Volt Readout

    1 x Soundstream Digital DC Volt and Amp Meter

    1 x Soundstream 0 gauge 1200Watt Cable Kit

    1 x Soundstream 12" Reference Series Subwoofer LINK

    And, some photos of the install;

    The amp for the front speakers... originally a 520W Picasso, but it was faulty and got replaced by the 760W version

    Size really doesn't matter when you look at the newer Picasso design amp, it's smaller in size but packs 700Watts of D class raw power

    <img src="http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/604141/SoundstreamInstall/Image1128.jpg">

    Here you can see the beginning of the end... the two amps in pre-install with the power cables connected... muahahaha

    <img src="http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/604141/SoundstreamInstall/Image1126.jpg">

    That's one beefy capacitor you have there

    <img src="http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/604141/SoundstreamInstall/Image1129.jpg">

    The front speakers are in! They look boring as hell... that's the whole idea!

    <img src="http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/604141/SoundstreamInstall/Image1131.jpg">

    Working on the wiring... this is still a nightmare at the moment. Will tidy up later -_-

    <img src="http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/604141/SoundstreamInstall/Image1134.jpg">

    Me, installing the crossovers onto the front kick-panels... because they are so fucking massive they wouldn't fit anywhere else :/

    <img src="http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/604141/SoundstreamInstall/Image1157.jpg">

    One of my mates thinks I am V.I.P.

    <img src="http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/604141/SoundstreamInstall/Image1160.jpg">

    Amps are in and wires are wired...

    <img src="http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/604141/SoundstreamInstall/Image1164.jpg">

    The uber crossover massiveness... it's not an edit... you can't see the pixels... do not pass GO, do not collect $200.

    <img src="http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/604141/SoundstreamInstall/Image1166.jpg">

    The construction of the subwoofer box is underway... with much liquid mails and 50mm screws

    <img src="http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/604141/SoundstreamInstall/Image1170.jpg">

    The last panel is attached!

    <img src="http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/604141/SoundstreamInstall/Image1171.jpg">

    Bingo

    <img src="http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/604141/SoundstreamInstall/Image1172.jpg">

    Lock in those corners, we don't want any air molecules escaping xD

    <img src="http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/604141/SoundstreamInstall/Image1174.jpg">

    Packed with Dacron and ready to fly... err shake... whatever

    <img src="http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/604141/SoundstreamInstall/Image1179.jpg">

    Screwed straight through the floor of the boot with 6 heavy duty galv screws... shit ain't goin' nowhere!

    <img src="http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/604141/SoundstreamInstall/Image1177.jpg">

    Mmmm sexy

    <img src="http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/604141/SoundstreamInstall/Image1183.jpg">

    At the end of a long day... you have some left over liquid nails...

    <img src="http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/604141/SoundstreamInstall/Image1190.jpg">

    To enjoy with your beer

    <img src="http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/604141/SoundstreamInstall/Image1191.jpg">

    xD

    And, the first test video... harmonic levitation

    The rattle you hear in the video is surprisingly limited to the number plate. I thought the whole car would rattle itself to death, but a couple of styrofoam blocks under the number plate stopped that buzzing. Will film another video from inside the car as soon as all the speakers are run-in properly.

    VIDEO

    Hope you like it, because I sure do

    The cosmetics will be improved over the next few weekends, like carpeting or painting the box... and installing cladding on the inside of the boot space to make the floor and walls look nice. Also, there is a shelf we have fabricated using the original as a sacrifice to cover up the view of the inside of the boot nicely. It still looks like a granny car apart from the front speakers

    Now, time for some stereo insurance... maybe I can get the car added as an "extra".

  • Hmm, I don't think that sound system is quite big enough. Make it a bit bigger maybe?

  • I haven't even considered putting a nice sound system in my car.

    It would get stolen in a heartbeat.

  • Lol Ash xD

    I couldn't fit any more in there! Wasn't enough room!

    That's why mine looks standard from the outside... the parcel shelf covers the back, and I have a granny blanket that goes on top of it. Apart from the front doors, it looks like nothing unusual is in there

    I made sure that I got the most boring looking front speaker covers that I could find... make them look like cheap speakers and nobody will know any better.
