Style1 or Style2? That is the question...

I drew these while in chat.

Which one do you like better and why?

    Participation is voluntary... maybe.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • I'll take both.

  • Hahaha well that doesn't help... well it sort of does.

    Thanks

  • Okay, now for more constructive feedback, it is hard to tell since the left one is kinda unfinished, needs cleaning. You've got straws all over her.

The right one looks good and has quite a character about her.

  • True true.

I was going for more of an overall opinion, based on things like resize ability, and general likeableness.

If I cleaned up Style1 more, it would just look nicer.

I guess what I am asking for is which one you think would make a better sprite and atmosphere for a chain of characters.

  • Give number one a chin.

    Yeah more details like that.

Less details like the gun in number two.

Im guessing your gonna do frames, cause a bones system just wont work with a side perspective.

    Frames, with bones... both actually

There will be side frame, 3/4 frame, front frame, and maybe a back frame...

    Each frame will have bones.

But yes, style 1 will be more detailed if that's the way it ends up heading. Cheers for the input

  • Style 2 if you pursue it I think would transform into a very original style

While Style1 seems more of a generic cartoon fell to it, which is probably why I related to it more at first, as it has a bit of familiarity(and we all like familiar things)

Both are great in there own way

So my suggestion is flip a coin

  • They're both too skinny imo too boney ^^

But 2 all the way currently

  • Hmm, I prefer style 1. But it depends on the surroundings, story, etc. If it is a cold world, harshness, then it should be style 2 - but you shouldn't detail it too much.

And please, let her give the impression that she eats at least sometimes

  • The first one. It is clean and the hair style is more "understandable" . Simply, a better design.

  • So far it's about 50/50 :/

Notably, she is skinny on purpose. It will tie in with other characters and graphical style. Everything will be elongated and ultra thin... kind of going for a "stylized" look to things. Since I was struggling to come up with a unique "theme" I decided to go for a more unique art direction.

Also, the detail will be scalable. I want something that looks good when sized down, but also want something that still looks detailed in a HD view. I plan on using layer zoom a lot which may be focused right on the character close-up, but will need to pan back to allow more viewport area.

Cheers for the crit so far. I guess I'm just trying to figure out if a more "cartoony" look is better than a "comic book" look.

  • the gun with the large ammunition rounds looks like it would pack quite a kick powering the large shells so unless she has something to deal with the recoil, she should probably use both hands to handle the gun

    Realism, it's not always fun

I was thinking she could use two at once... big-ass-gun's akimbo.

That's a tiny gun anyway xD

  • I much prefer the look of style 2
