Suggestion: Can we have a suggestion forum?

Discussion and feedback on Construct 2

Post » Sat Oct 06, 2012 7:26 pm

I've noticed a few times people have posted really good 'my list of suggestions' threads in places like the 'general' or 'how do I' board, but have been lost in the traffic. It's a shame because there are some really good ideas in them. There's a few little things I'd like to recommend too.

It would also be useful for finding items that Ashley has already added to his TODO list. I made a post last night asking about a certain feature only to find out later the suggestion had already been made. Having a 'Added TODO' sub-forum similar to the bugs 'closed' sub-forum might cut down on the amount of messages Ashley has to respond to.

To go one step further, moving threads to one of three sub-forums might be handy - One for 'Will add', one for 'considering' and 'Cannot/Will not add'. It would be very easy for forum users to find and link back to those threads when new people arrive on the forums. I feel like it would organize the community a bit more.

Has a suggestion forum been suggested before? Also, that word is slowly losing all meaning...

We already have too many things on our todo list to be able to easily say we'll take on new suggestions. I do occasionally bookmark the suggestion threads to return to later, but a whole forum would just be a big pile of things I don't have time to get to right now.

^Ashley's rapid response; my tl;dr version:

All of the "suggestion" requests are just as easy to find in the forum search as they would be if there were a new area to put them. It would be unlikely that you would have found that your suggestion had previously been made any more easily with the resources you request than with the resources you currently have.

Likewise, good "suggestion threads" receive a lot of attention. And if the thread does manage to get sent off page with no responses, there are plenty of thread users who check the "unanswered" threads to ensure everything has received adequate attention. In the rare occasion that a thread goes by without receiving its due, it appears to be completely acceptable to bump it once. I have seen threads have great success after being bumped. And don't think that Ashley and Tom aren't present here, they very likely see everything and take note of interesting ideas and suggestions.

It's not that I think your idea isn't a good one, it's more that I think it would just add additional work for Ashley and Tom, as opposed to simplifying anything, as you feel it may. Of course, I could be mistaken. However, given the general nature of the "general" forum, it is expected that a wide variety of subjects would be covered here. The forum tends to be quite active, but doesn't often move at a rate that sends things out of mind and sight prior to getting attention. And of course, as noted, the almighty single bump is the backup to that.

So yeah, I suppose ultimately I would be surprised if something like this were to occur. I think the general forum is adequate for this type of feedback. And of course the chat is always there, which has helped me a number of times, as well.

No idea what you mean by "that word" slowly losing all meaning.teahousemoon2012-10-06 22:41:32

Oh I meant the word "Suggestion". I had written it out so many times while writing the post it just started sounding like a jumble of letters

As for the feedback, that sounds fair enough. I was just throwing the idea out to see what you guys thought. I guess I was really liking how helpfull something like this was and thought it would be handy to have here.

Who knows, maybe we don't need a whole forum dedicated to it, just a sticky similar to the one linked above. No idea who would have time do it though

Wow, Amplitude has a really cool community development style. Looks like a cool studio, and endless space looks fun, too.

Yeah I hate using the same word multiple times myself.

My suggestions haven't ever taken hold either, but others have had some success!

Any new games up and coming from you?
