Its fairly straight forward. It works like a sprite sheet, except you can advance the texture 1 pixel at a time if you like.

As far as I remember it cannot wrap the texture. So your texture should have two of the same image side by side.

Its all one texture. You just say what rectangular part the user can see.
So, yes if you want it to wrap at the pixel level you would need the texture to be bigger than its viewport.... and then move back to the original position at some point.
