"Text Blitter"

New releases and general discussions.

Hey there,

Long time MMF2 user here - decided to have a look at construct again now that it's come along a bit. Now what I wanted to post about was - there is not equivalent of the "Text Blitter" from MMF. Everything else I usually use is there except for this - if anyone doesn't know what it is it basically let's you create your own Bitmap fonts with some very advanced features and rendering control (line spacing, character spacing etc.) and I use it in every project I create.

A couple of other people and I have been looking into construct for a while now but this is a pretty big feature gap IMO.

Thanks!

This may not be your favorite workaround, but the option to include fonts in application resources is planned for a future release. In the very worst case, you could eventually create your own font proper and include it in your application. I would argue this holds some benefits over text blitter, where you are restricted to bitmap fonts.

Stay tuned for news on this upcoming feature. As for a text blitter plugin, that may be a while unless you can find a developer out there willing to devote his time to the betterment of this program.

The main reason I use Text Blitter is because it does use a bitmap font.

I'm also looking forward a bitmap font plugin, hope to see it in the near future.

Ben and Aspal?! Well hello silvernova!

Yeah, something like the text blitter would be really nice (or some additions to the Text object) but for me it's not that high priority.

For now, go ahead and make your own proper bitmap font. I would suspect font includes will come before any text blitter object. :)
