Discussion and feedback on Construct 2

I couple of weeks ago I purchased Game Maker Studio, after buying Professional for $99 dollars 1 day after I decided to buy the HTML5 export for $199.00. I realized that after 3 days I have spent $299 and Would actually need to export to iOS and Android. I didn't want to spend the $500 from the beginning because I wanted to try at least one export. So after 3 days I wrote to Game Maker support to see if they could honor my purchase and allow me to buy the Master Version for the difference, after all, I bought the others just 3 days ago. I didn't want to feel like an idiot spending another $500. They didn't care, they expected me to spend $800 dollars for what others would pay $500. I could not make myself pay these obscene amount for it. A couple of days later I discover Construct 2. Wow! Not only I was able to do in 1 day what would take me 3 days to do in Game Maker, but the cost of getting a full featured solution was good enough for me to pull the trigger immediately.

I have to add, Construct is far better anyways. Just one word is enough to realize this "Layers"

I actually published an article about the pricing structure of GameMaker Studio here: YoYo Under Fire for Unfair Pricing

Others have brought this issue to YoYo Game's attention in the past. Though, GMS is going to become even more expensive soon so you might consider current prices "cheap"!

You can create your own layering system pretty easily in GM you know. Construct 2 isn't better, it's just different. And it's also in a much lower state of maturity right now. Also if you understand the scripting language, you can usually throw stuff together much more quickly than with an event driven system. They both of their merits.

Yes, you can use GMS and Construct 2, they will both work, but the problem is the prices, and I don't think the YoyoGames politics is helping GMS for that

And that is why you shall respect the bug reports guidelines, not only giving a capx is making the bug reproductible in one click in a situation they can work with (less time wasted trying to reproduce vague instructions) but also it helps filtering false positives.

Game design is all about decomposing the core of your game so it becomes simple instructions.

Actually the pricing structure was one of the reasons I have never purchased it. If I buy it it will be Master only. Any other pricing is too much. Hearing that they could be getting more expensive is concerning.

While I don't feel that GMS is as intuitive as C2; GMS assigned Event system directly to objects. Which let's objects behave more OOP. Which is far better than open events :(

Also the effort that YoYo games makes to for true cross platform compilation should never be underestimated. With that you can create native language support. Allowing new technologies to be directly incorported rather than having to listen to "waiting for technologies to catchup nonsense."

Take this as an example. GMS developers could incorporate a UDP network later years ago. Where as C2 needs to wait for browser developers to provide access layer. Same with WebSockets, WebGL... so on and the list goes on. Browsers are and will always be playing 4 year catchup on a technoligical level. C2 needs browser based wrapper designed to work in any other environment.

However, GMS pricing is heavy handed. Other tools similar have yearly licensing. Which can end up costing even more than GMS.

C2 license is easily a very generous and fantastic license. But at the same time C2 just isn't as mature distribution. :( great product though :)

Puh, that is quite some pricing for a engine that not only takes forever to learn but I also don't like theyr restrictive licensing on creativity. Just by that I even preffered construct classic before construct2 begun its development and I don't regret to purchase the business license :D I especialy love the amazing amount of updates that we get to try out :)I think you are in the right place, pal
