Also some words from the blog

WebGL Status on Mobile WebGL is starting to be hot on mobile. blackberry playbook2 got it by default. boot on gecko got it too with firefox mobile. It isnt enabled on android and iOS tho, the 2 majors. Maybe we will have more info in june with google.io and apple event. google got chrome on android. iOS already got support, this is more a matter of policy. So lets hope google will announce WebGL support for chrome mobile. and apple will announce they accepts WebGL on apps store applications.

It would be awesome!

Every single mobile that supports WebGL that we've tested renders slower with WebGL enabled than with Canvas 2D. This is because WebGL relies more on Javascript speed, and is only faster than canvas 2D if the Javascript engine is extremely fast. Only desktop browsers tend to have fast enough Javascript engines - mobiles still seem to have slower Javascript which makes WebGL perform worse.

Yes, there an exception about WebGL demo for blackberry playbook which is first mobile has implemented WebGL, i haven't tested this real mobile, but someone used it with webgl demo, the fps was like 40 using 2.1 OS

I'm not sure its real.

Ashley, just a small Point. People without background knowledge may misinterpret your message.

I definitly agree that the cpu is likely much slower on mobile than on desktop. So is javascript. Nevertheless webgl is very fast on mobile too. Just to give an idea it is possible to render a lvel of quake3 at 60fps on ipad2. It is what i means by very fast.

It is impossible to do so on canvas2d. To render 3d on canvas2d Is possible. but it is slow and produce an visual of poor quality compared to what webgl can get.
