Hey, I don't know if this is a shader effect, but does anyone remember the game driver? and how when the game was nighttime the lights would trail? Would that be possible for a shader effect?

Particles would be good. Just set speed, acceleration and stuff to 0 and give it a long fadeout time.

Or using Plasma would probably work well.

Something like this maybe?

I'm sure the effect can be tweaked to look more like what you need.

Guys, is it possible to make a trail effect like in Prince of Persia 2, on enemies' eyes? Or like in most 3D medieval action games like Enclave (there are smth like that on swords, hammers, arrows(they leave trails after shooting), axes) ? I've found a solution - make a gradiented square spirte and stick it to the player(or smth else) but that kind of trails is not a good solution: that trail cannot follow the path of the player correctly - it just follows, rotates and changes it's width like in Ashley's fake motion blur. So is there any chance to make a true trail effect?

I think Driver's effect was geometry based. It would have been prohibitively expensive to do with shaders back at the time. Did we even have shaders back at the time?

Deadeye's effect is beautiful, you could also spawn trail segment sprites in the correct positions/sizes in a special layer and then blend that layer additively.
If the effect is to be done in screen space (trails stick to the screen) you can get screen-space position by doing posx-scrollx, posy-scrolly

If anyone can improve on this it'd be great :) (like, get rid of the seams!)
