  • I'm making a mobile phone game and want to know if I should be concerned about whether to use transparency or not.

If I make the .PNG file transparent using Photoshop, will it also affect performance?

  • If you mean cutting out the background of your sprite, you should not worry about affecting performance. Using the "Set opacity" action however, might affect the performance.

Read this post for all you need to know about performance.

  • I've already read that :) . I'm not asking about cutting out the background of the sprite. I'm asking about making a transparent image in Photoshop and saving it as PNG so that it saves the alpha channel.

    Then importing it in C2. Will it affect performance? <img src="smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

  • I don't get it, why would you want to do that? <img src="smileys/smiley17.gif" border="0" align="middle" /> But yea, I don't see why it should affect performance.

  • Transparent touch controls on iPhone is good. Since the screen is small, you don't have the buttons covering up the gameplay screen.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • Oh, of course, I see what you mean. I don't think you'll notice much performance drop if it's just a few objects. You could just turn down the opacity in C2 though, no need to do it in PS.

But I don't have that much experience with mobile, why not just give it a go, and if you experience any FPS drops, you know where to look.

  • Alright... thanks for helping <img src="smileys/smiley4.gif" border="0" align="middle" />
