Variable and timer bug/glitch ? help me !

so i make an object "sprite1" and set its instance variable to 1
here is my event sheet:

if sprite1 instance variable = 1
(start timer "timer" for 1 second)

sprite1 on timer "timer" end...
(spawn sprite2 at sprite1 position)
(start timer "timer" for 1 second)

so every 1 second.. sprite1 will spawn sprite2 at its position, but when i try it.. it didnt work...
i also try:

every tick
(if sprite1's instance variable = 1)
[then start the same code ... just like on top]

didnt work too..

It looks like you are starting the timer every tick. Start the timer when you set the variable to 1.
