WEB GL effects in windows 8 apps

Discussion and feedback on Construct 2

Here's the official statement as to why Windows 8 Store apps (which use the same engine as IE10) do not support WebGL...

@codefoster: Are you aware that in fact the true reason why they don't support webGL is to keep on working and trying to shove "Silverlight" down internet's throat ?

And that actually SilverLight suffers the very same "security" issues they point out as a reason why to not support WebGL ?

And flash. Why haven't they disabled that?

"The latest FUD is Microsofts claim that they wont support WebGL because its insecure. They might have a little more credibility if they werent promoting a technology, Silverlight 5, that provides the EXACT SAME FEATURES with all the same issues. They cant have it both ways. Either its possible to make this tech safe or else its not. If it is possible to make it safe in Silverlight 5 then its also just as possible in WebGL. If its not possible to make it safe Microsoft would have to come out and say (1) They are removing GPU access from Silverlight 5. (2) They are banning Unity3D from running in IE since it also provides access to the EXACT SAME FEATURES. (3) They are banning Flash 11 from running in IE since it also provides access to the EXACT SAME FEATURES."

More here.

A lot of the issues have also already had solutions found. Even some of microsoft's own employees apparently disagree about not supporting webgl.Arima2013-01-22 01:50:43

Java, Flash, Unity3D and Silverlight can all do what WebGL does in a browser, and Microsoft has only blocked the one that competes with DirectX. So I don't really believe their security argument.Ashley2013-01-22 11:04:06
