Weebly or just Html ?

  • Hey i want to set up a websites for games and other stuff and make some money of the ads.

I don't like Wordpress, Weebly looks interesting...

But html seems easy to learn from scratch, is html enough to create a website for html5 games, blog, video links and ads?

Log ins would require php and sql knowledge I think.

  • Weebly is this webservice right ?

Comparing HTML & weebly is like comparing cooking and going to the drive-in of some fastfood.

Weebly is a key in hand service from what I understood, whereas with HTML (as base) you have to build and host your website all the way.

If hosting is something you're already familiar with, you might want to take a look around at some CMS (joomla, drupal, elgg, ...) that might allow you to host/distribute your games (they are just some HTML/JS code addition in a page/article) and already has some membership system in PHP.

If you have no clue about all this, maybe go with the webservice if they offer good companionship on the configuration/maintenance. That'd probably be the simplest.

  • Yeah I know a little bit about hosting :)

Got FileZilla and know how to use it.

I just saw Weebly and it reminded me a lot of C2 :p

    youtube.com/watch the code snippet thing..

Thx, i look up Joomla, etc and see what i like the most.

But i suppose it is still a good idea to learn a bit of html?

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • HTML you can learn in one day,and all the day you will be playing with few Tags like Bold, font color,tables,images,links...it's easy as write what you want and where you want your stuff to show in your webpage ^_^

But if you want to make a community for games, you need to learn a server side dinamic language to make User registrations,scores,forums,medals,etc... like PHP/ASP are the most used languages to develop web applications =)

But believe me...you dont want to learn programming from scratch...i recommend to you Joomla, it already have all what you need for a community...it's easy as Construct to make games =)

pd...and of course, if you just want to publish your games in a website, just use Weebly, has everything you need to build a site online (drag and drop style)^_^

  • I have just bought a Domain ^^

I think i will go for Drupal (Sorry Nanitoz :p) But they should be equally easy

  • ...I don't like Wordpress ...

Schoening Why not? I'd go for Wordpress over Joomla and Drupal any day. And so would the majority of users. Which means you've got a bigger community to advise and help you.

Agreed, WordPress also has a huge library of plugins and themes, so it's pretty easy to customize to the way you like.

  • Yeah well.. I did not like it, I felt very restricted since it is more for Blogging.

I might as well stick with something I feel has a bit more power to it :p

WordPress is not just for blogging any more! Google "wordpress make website". Here's one example of what you'll find.

  • Wordpress it's native for blogging xD! there is a lot of plugins to make it looks like a CMS but never gonna be like one...i think

Drupal it's a good choice too...similar to joomla and great resources to make what you want in there ^_^

  • Sorry Velojet :p I have tried Wordpress, I do not like it xD I understand the personal preference

nanitoz yeah, i'm more going with my gut here by choosing between the two.   Now I still gotta learn some html and PHP <img src="smileys/smiley24.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

nanitoz Have you tried using it as a CMS? I have. Hundreds have. Successfully. Here's just one approach.

Schoening Persist with WordPress. Honestly, you'll find it a lot more manageable than Drupal or Joomla. And you can pick up on HTML and PHP as you go.

Here is a good site to start learning:

    http://www.html.net/

  • WordPress is great and it's by far, the easiest to use and get accustomed to but yeah, it was built for blogging and getting it to work for other things generally takes a bit of work or money.

As an example, there are themes like

ReviewIt that illustrate the possibility of a game review site with WordPress.

There are also highly customizable themes like Headway that let you create pretty much any design you want right from the admin area.

You could potentially use individual blog posts to represent individual games, though custom post types provide a more elegant solution and admittedly custom post types still would take some work to get used to and then customize for the purpose.

For that reason, I think Drupal is especially well suited to the task of creating an arcade-type site. However, Drupal is generally more difficult to learn than WordPress, since there are so many more resources, free and paid, to help you learn WordPress. Plus, WordPress' interface is arguably the easiest to use of all CMS.

Just to add something too, if you're looking for something free that's really on the cutting edge, check out Wakanda. It's not a CMS, but it's a robust development tool that you can use to easily build any database-related site. Plus, it's all about JavaScript, which is C2's native language as well. :)

  • The Wakanda looks pretty cool also ^^

But I think the most viable thing I can do is to learn PHP HTML MySQL and use a cms..
