  • There's a hell of a lot of stuff Construct can do, but there's also stuff it can't. Quite a few topics have been made about the same things recently, so I thought I'd write this post to help newbies

I'm not a mod or whatever, so my word is not God/Mod.

    • ONLINE GAMES: As it happens, I'm currently working on a plugin for this, but until and unless I or someone else releases one, NO ONLINE. UNLESS, possibly, you use Python- this HAS worked, with networked pong, and I believe scidave is making a tutorial.
    • EXPORT TO ANY PLATFORM OTHER THAN WINDOWS: This has been suggested many times, and is highly unlikely to happen ever until Construct 2. THIS INCLUDES FLASH, JAVA, SILVERLIGHT, BLAHBLAHBLAH- you can NOT run Construct games in a browser.
    • 3D: Internally, Construct is 3D, as is evidenced by the 3D Box among other things. However, there is NO way to load meshes, and there WILL NOT be a 3D editor. It's still theoratically possible to do some cool semi-3D stuff, and FPS demos have been made, but it involves rather hard maths and is not what Construct was designed for.
    • GENERIC GAMEPAD: There's no plugin for this and no-one is known to be working on one. If you want to make one, or pay someone else to make one, that'd be super, otherwise you'll have to wait or go without.

There's quite a bit more, but those are the things I've been seeing a lot of. Will edit later with more. Hope someone finds this helpful!

    WooHoo!!!!!!!!!

    That will be big!

Shrug no biggie the Xbox360 controller does all the game pad stuff and more.

You can also add No Print for the Event code Editor, and no High Score Board.

  • The 360 plugin, as its name implies, only works for the 360 pad.

  • In danger of completely becoming the 'Python Guy' I should point out that you can use a gamepad in Construct using Python and Pygame:

    http://www.pygame.org/docs/ref/joystick.html

At some point in the future after doing the network stuff, I'll show an example with Pygame and joystick/gamepad control.

Although, it would be nicer to have an actual plugin for generic gamepads.

The Xbox 360 Controller Plugin is currently bugged too...

  • Include 1 more-

Construct till now can't export swf or java files.

  • Include 1 more-

Construct till now can't export swf or java files.

And will probably never happen, not now and neither for Construct 2 as it will I believe it would require a complete rewrite to add support for flash of java.

will construct 2 be construct 1 .cap compatible?

  • will construct 2 be construct 1 .cap compatible?

    Nope.

btw.. this is really awesome Dataflashbot. Any status on how it's coming along? What networking library did you decide to go with? This will be a huge plus when it comes out!!!

I'm using Boost.asio, and I don't really want to give status updates for fear of dissapointing if I give up. Thanks for the interest though!

  • Online: This is something that is indeed needed at some-point.

3D: I don't think much more is needed than what is already there. Perhaps more primitives for the 3D Box but really, Construct is supposed to be a 2D program, so loading fully animated models should be saved for a Construct 2. I do hope mesh distortion is continually supported however, as that has many practical uses in 2D.

Export: I can understand a Mac export feature, but I don't really think it's a huge factor. Macs are generally used for creative purposes and not gaming, despite some changes over the years to make that aspect easier.

Gamepad: This is more of a novelty I think. Most people don't use a gamepad, despite what you might like to believe. Perhaps down the road?

    My 4 cents.

  • Gamepad: This is more of a novelty I think. Most people don't use a gamepad, despite what you might like to believe. Perhaps down the road?

ight be true, but for some game types its 100% needed. Playing street fighter on keyboard is usually considered unappealing by the fighting game community. Everyone likes to use their own equipment and have options. What's the use of having a Joypad when your favorite games don't support it.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • Well, you make it sound like I said it shouldn't be added ... I said perhaps down the road? I just don't believe it needs to be near the top of list.

Also, a vast majority of people who use gamepad right now, actually do use a 360 gamepad. A windows specific version was even released by Microsoft.

  • 6Fix.

Construct 2 is going to be for 2D too. Your reason isn't really a good reason because the same reasoning applies to C2 as well. The main issue is that C1 wasn't made well enough to support the addition of 3D. It keeps breaking as the devs change things between versions. Supposedly C2 will have all these things done right.
