  • I have been experimenting with tutorials on FileSonic. I have earner $0.04 so far in total with all tutorials I made. I need some suggestion how to increase this.

    I have been thinking to make a short demo in youtube and post the full tutorial for download in FileSonic.

    Please help me so I can make some more cents

  • This may not really have anything to do with your tutorials but you can try Google Adsense, basically, you can earn some dollars by posting their ads on your website or something and if people click those ads, you get some mowney!

    Gamers/game creators are probably not the clicking on an ad type .

    And it wouldn't look cool if I created a website with those ads.

    Also you need a really big site with lots of content if you want to go for adsense.

    Also video tutorials isn't search engine friendly.

    I have to ad a lot of text. I hate writing

    You mean the game creator community is pretty limited or the number of people using construct are limited or something else?

  • i think he might be saying that there are ten billion free tutorials for anything on the web as far as game development goes. if I had the free time, I think I could go from where I am now as a c++ programmer to being able to design parts of unreal engine 3, just based on free online tutorials

  • Well look at it this way trying to make money off of something they can get for free is a very contradictory idea.

  • I have noticed one thing. There aren't many free video tutorials compared to written articles. Maybe there is only a few like me that appreciate a video tutorial over a written tutorial/article.

    What do you think? How many choose video over written text?

  • Ehh same thing, snow-cones VS igloos.

    The subject is very niche, you'll be hard pressed to get the numbers to make it worth it.

    Hence the Viagra spam across the net.

  • Ok as I understand you you're saying that because there is so much competition it will be hard for me to get noticed.

    This would be very understandable if I where using search engine traffic.

    But in my case I don't care about SE traffic much. I care more for people finding me through a couple of forums.

    Also the forums have already found people interested in the niche.

  • I got curious about filesonic and checked out their site. Pretty much they pay money based on how many downloads, the size of the download, and the country the user is downloading from. For example, if you are in USA/UK and download 1000 files that are in 1-50MB range then you get $7.00. I guess they put ads on your page or something similar.

    To put this in perspective, in the about 1 year or so I've had the Adventure and Online tutorials I've had about 8K downloads. That comes out to $56 dollars a year (best case)..not really all that great of an income.

    I could see you posting valuable game examples with full tutorial for newbies or something more advanced like a short book and getting a fair number of downloads which might make you at best $50 - $100 year from that site.

    Seams to be the only site buying and selling tutorials. Very nice idea because I don't have to search for the customers. Still I like "free" a lot and I will try it out some more.

    True, some money is better than nothing.

    Another idea is to write plugins or other useful things that Construct users might want which would probably get high downloads.

    Finally, instead of a few large tutorials maybe write many high quality smaller tutorials. Another option is to post completed games that are well documented.

    Edit: One more thing..for your tutorial to get lots of downloads it has to be something people really want or are interested in....something they aren't likely to get elsewhere. Perhaps the authoritive source on topic X. For example, like in-depth step-by-step tutorial on the Wait object. Assuming lots of people want to use the Wait object and it isn't buggy.

    Spot on there.

    The ghost shooter video tutorial I made was really frustrating and took a long time to make. A lot of editing. Small and many are better for sure.

  • Well if your really serious about this, I'd suggest taking it a step further, and making interactive tutorials via Construct 2.

    Html5 is going to change the face of the net, might as well get on board.
