Post » Tue Nov 10, 2015 7:07 am

hi

i would like to know what is really happening to construct2

To me it looks like the begining of his death, NO updates of the "officials" plugins like Facebook plugin who are suposed support Facebook functions.
This is an officiel PLUGIN FROM THE DEVELOPERS.

SO wait a minut...

1- its an official plugin.
2- if its official it is suposed be WORKING under EVERY EXPORTED APP..
3- its official plugin BUT NOT WORKING ANYMORE.
4- WAIT it IS working BUT ONlY under browsers, chrome firefox...
5- its not working anymore FOR MOBILES...
6- Construct 2, develop once export to every platform???
7- WHAT?
8- Why is no updates of THOSE PLUGINS?
9- i know....maybe construct3?.....
10- oh yeah... that what i was thinking....
11- what??
12- construct 2 is dying...

what are you talking about?

facebook plugin was developed by 3rd party, some guy here (don't know his nickname).

also he now works on people's projects for some fee, doesn't probably update facebook plugin, so you're on your own.

He's probably talking about that one: https://www.scirra.com/manual/112/facebook

Not the 3rd party plugin ("facebook complete" or whatever it was called).

yeah a lot of people are trying to work with that "officiel" plugin, not working, it iS suposed to work, but i saw a lot of request of people askign for an update of this plugin, without any answer from teh develpers, also the TUTORIAL need ALSO a BIG update because its outdated (2013) we are in 2015 AND facebook developer section has CHANGED A LOT, stuffs don't work anymore like in that tutorial.

ALSO if you try to use that offical plugin IN your mobile app, then, you are going to lose your time for days or WEEKS (....actually i tried everything 1 month now....)
so BEFORE telling to all the users ,it is working, TRY IT, SEE IT BY YOURSELF!!!

and whats the only solution for users???
TO BUY a new NO OFFICIAL PLUGIN.....thats the way of construct 2?? "develop easy?".....
where are the developers, where are the updates ,where are the respons to users when people ask a lot of times and not get any respons...
and finally, what are the solutions???
it is going to be a HUGE updates of old plugins??

the only thing that i miss is tiled sprite plugin.

there is one on plugins subforum but it doesn't work except in preview, and it's owner won't update it :/
i'd do it myself but i have to go through webGL javascript book to learn it first :/

I actually do support all my old plugins free of any charge. However due to the Facebook API changing every month it became unfeasible to offer a plugin for a 1 time fee. Some people have used my support many times which means the $20 they paid has translated into less than a dollar an hour for the time I put into the work. Not complaining at all, just explaining why I had to switch to a different model of payment. Now I'm happy to join any team and work on any part of their project including Facebook for a fee. Like you would charge I'm sure for being part of a business team.

But I must say to construct 2 creators credit, they do a phenomenal job of adding things as often as they can. Remember there are a million conceivable items you can add to construct 2. We can't expect them to add all of those all at once. For example I've been on teams where I've added PayPal processing, top score databases, photo manipulation, and of course Facebook features(which change every 30 days). Other options could include facial recognition, gif support, enhanced audio, enhanced pattern matching, nodjs support in terms of MySQL databases(that might already be feasible actually), the list is endless and that doesn't even cover the mobile export options.

So don't think of it as a dying project. Think of it as a work in project, you all got in on the ground floor of html5 which puts you ahead of the curve. Now we just need to slowly add the tools to make us unstoppable as developers. :)

It's really hard supporting the Facebook API. For a long while Facebook had a stupid motto of "move fast and break things", which meant constantly breaking their own API, and it also had regular outages so when testing it would sometimes randomly fail even if your code is correct. We've updated the tutorial a bunch of times as well, but they keep changing how the setup website works as well. It's a lot of work tracking these changes and we're trying to develop the next version of the product at the moment on top of that. However obviously we want all the official features to work, so if you can point me at a bug report if there is one, then hopefully we can get round to it for the next C2 beta cycle.

@Ashley,

You would fix about 99% of the issues if you set a string property for people to enter their own Facebook permissions(your current issue is that some Facebook permission names have changed). Also the info returned when a user logs in includes an access token. If you can make that a string expression then everyone would be able to use the Ajax plugin and the browser plugin to add their own Facebook features. As for mobile devices, it requires a completely different set of JavaScript code in order to function. This is because the standard plugin(web) is tied to a domain and website for security reasons. The mobile devices don't have that luxury so they are tied to their developer app key instead of domain. So that would probably require a completely separate plugin to work.

So try to switch thing so users enter their own comma separated list of permissions and return the access token as an expression. That would fix 99% of current and future bugs for the web API. It would also allow people to add their own Facebook platform tools without bugging you to add them. :)

I love C2. I loved it since the day I bought it. It is, hands down, the BEST game making tool I have ever laid my hands on. But I believe there is a whole lot of room for improvement. I understand that the devs are already busy working on Construct 3. Some of Construct 2's improvements can be solved (and can also be carried over to Construct 3) by answering these two simple questions:

- Do we (Scirra developers) have enough people/staff to maintain and update the product?
- Do we have a good business model to support the growth/expansion of the company and improvement of the product/s?

IMO, paying just once for a GREAT product like Construct 2 sounds like a missed opportunity. I would gladly pay a yearly subscription fee (at a reasonable price) if that meant the product would get the best support it needs, the best updates to its features, and the best product overall.

I also hope that the next iteration of Construct doesn't depend solely on wrappers. Wrappers almost ensure that exports to other platforms will always be at an 'almost native' performance, and will never be at a native performance level. Wrappers also add another layer of technicality, most of which aren't even in the hands of Scirra. These things are what's holding C2 back and it's so disappointing. Again, just my opinion.

So please devs, don't hold your own product/s back. I do hope Construct 3 is leagues beyond Construct 2.
